Drake and J. Cole Spotted on Video Set

Just a week after landing a sport in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, shooting stars, as a point guard, North Carolina rapper, J.Cole was spotted with Canadian megastar, Drake, on what looked very much like a music video set. The news has expectedly spread like wildfire, and all of the hip-hop world is now on alert for a possible new collaboration between the two GOATS.

However, rumours state that Cole was just a guest on a Drake video set, as opposed to a music collaboration between the two, as spotted by a Twitter user.

Fans have reignited the assertions that the two GOATS, considered the greatest of their generation alongside Kendrick Lamar, are avoiding a lyrical altercation.

The three emcees have never appeared on a song together, Kendrick and Cole have only been on three official songs in more than a decade of their reign.

On the other hand, Drake and Cole have been on two official songs together, 2011’s ‘In the Morning,’ and 2013’s ‘Jodeci Freestyle.’

Drake tapped the ‘No Role Models‘ rapper as a supporting act for his 2018 Assassination Vacation Tour, 2016 Summer Sixteen Tour, and Austin City Limits Festival and Cole brought out Drake on the offseason Tour opening night in 2021, after giving him a shout out on his song ‘Heavens’s EP.’

Never in these last nine years, has there been an official collaboration between both artists, fans are excited for this one if a collab comes out of it.

Nasty C’s Ivyson Tour Hits Jo’Burg

Nasty C’s Nationwide Campus Tour, the Ivyson Tour is set to hit the city of gold, on June 4th, 2022, the Ivyson army will be receiving their leader at Zone 6 Venue, Johannesburg, Gauteng.

The Johannesburg leg of the tour will have a star-studded performance list that includes Maskandi veteran K.O., Nadia Nakai, Gemini Major, Loki, KASHCPT, J Molley, Shane Eagle, Tall Racks signee, and frequent collaborator, Rowlene. See the banner for more.

The setlist is so star-studded that many people have voiced displeasure that the Cape Town and Durban legs did not have the same caliber of guest artists as the Jo’burg show.

Lupe Fiasco Announces New Album with Lead Single

Carrera Lu, also known as Lupe Fiasco, took to social media to announce the coming of his next studio album titled ‘Drill Music in Zion.’ Accompanying the album announcement was the lead single and a video for it. The single is titled ‘Autoboto‘ and it seems Lupe’s pen is still as sharp as ever, even at 40 years of age.

Even more surprising is the infectious hook, as Lupe has never really been notorious for making good hooks. The song which is set to become a live performance favorite, due to its repetitive value.

The album is set to drop on June 24th, 2022, this news is coming right after Lupe bagged a professorship at MIT, handling a rap class.

Lupe’s last full-length studio album was 2018’s DROGAS Wave, although he also collaborated with Kaelin Ellis and Virgil Abloh on 2020 EP House, and Soundtrakk on EP Tape Tape, Jaco announced that the new album will contain a ten-song tracklist.

Lupe Fiasco Bags Professorship at MIT

Grammy award-winning artist, Lupe Fiasco, is widely considered one of the greatest lyricists of his generation, and now he is adding more feathers to his hat of excellence, as he lands a professorship at MIT, to instruct a rap class.

According to MIT’s website, the opportunity came through the school’s MLK Visiting Professor Program, which was created to increase minority scholar participation.

The rapper and community advocate, Lupe Fiasco joins two new teachers participating in the 2022-2023 program including theater teacher Eunice Ferreira and documentary filmmaker Louis Massiah.

It won’t be the first time the “Kick, Push‘” rapper has been involved with the university as he spent the 2020-21 school year there as a Visiting Artist. The rapper, whose real name is Wasalu Jaco, recently announced a forthcoming album titled ‘Drill Music in Zion,’ to be released on June 24th, 2022.

Ladipoe Bags Fourth Number One Song with Overdose

Mavins Records rapper Oladipo Eso, popularly known as Ladipoe, or simply Poe, just landed himself a fourth number-one single on the Nigerian Apple Music Top 100 Chart, with the Mavins Record posse cut, ‘Overloading (OVERDOSE).’

The song features an infectious hook from Mavins and Blowtime singer, Crayon, a verse each from Ayra Starr, Ladipoe himself, Magixx, and new kid on the block, Boy Spyce, in that order.

The posse cut follows the 2020 pandemic hit, ‘Know You‘ featuring Simi, 2021’s Buju assisted ‘Feeling‘ and the Fireboy collaborative joint, ‘Running‘ as the Nigerian rapper’s fourth number-one single on the charts.

Blxckie Celebrates 10 Plaques in One Year with Redbat Deal

Blxckie, The Durban rapper tipped to be the next Nasty C when he burst into the scene in 2020, with his pandemic hit, ‘Big Time Shlappa,’ has steadily continued down a similar success path as the man he was often compared to., and that includes a couple of gold and platinum plaques and now a Redbat endorsement deal.

Around this time last year ago, Blxckie released his debut album after a slew of successful singles including ‘Ye x4‘ featuring non-other than Nasty C himself.

The album titled ‘B4NOW’ was a staple trap effort novel in both its production and Blxckie’s unique vocal dexterity and choppy flow, doused with slurry playful baby accents, and a palette of infused genres.

Somnyama and Redbat in a collaboration with a release of their new sneakers celebrate the success of ‘B4NOW,’ which spawned hits like ‘David,’ ‘Stripes‘ featuring Flvme, and ‘Hold.’

Blxckie expressed his excitement for the partnership and also revealed he will be the first SA rapper to have his own Redbat’s music culture tee.

‘B4NOW’ is now widely regarded as the greatest debut album by a South African hip hop artist, as amongst other accomplishments has accumulated ten different certifications for Blxckie in just one year of release.

Last year, he was named Apple Music’s up next artist and, along with several other nominations, won freshman of the year at the South African Hip Hop Awards (SAHHAs).

Somnyama in one year, received the following plaques, double platinum award for “Kwenzekile” feat. Madumane and “Chang Cello”, “Ye ×4” feat. Nasty C, “Big Time Sh’lappa” feat. Lucasraps and “Hold”.

Gold awards for the following singles, “Sika”, “David”, “Joy” Ft. Oxlade, Umoya, “Cold” and for his “B4Now” deluxe album.

Lolli Native Gets Two Killer Hooks from SA King of Hooks, Emtee

Lolli Native is a Cape Town-born Xhosa Spaza Trapper, Lolli Native, gets some help from former Ambitiouz Entertainment trapper, Emtee, for two new singles.

The Nyanga East rapper who was signed to Emtee records last year, recently released ‘Nyanga‘ featuring Emtee and wasted no time seeking another killer hook from the Matatiele-born hook king for another collab.

Emtee has been low-key trying to make a huge comeback to the top echelon of SA hip hop since his third studio album ‘Logan‘ in 2021. This is just another set of features from quite a number, for the father of two, since last year.

‘On Your Own’ is produced by Knifebeatz and the visuals are a collaborative effort with Sportscene studios. Lolli Native is set to release his debut project titled ‘Ivangeli’ starring Brian Temba, Zaddy Swag, and a few more.

Zoocci Coke Dope Receives Gold Plaque for ‘Hustler’s Prayer’ Production

South African rapper, songwriter, and record producer, Zoocci Coke Dope, has just received a gold plaque for his production contribution to the 25k and A-Reece 2021 hit song, ‘Hustler’s Prayer.’

The gold plaque was presented to Zooloo by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA), the official governing body for music certifications in South Africa, for selling an equivalent of 10,000 units.

‘Hustler’s Prayer’ albeit the first time 25K and Zoocci are working together,  is not the first collaborative effort between Zoocci Coke Dope and fellow Pretoria-born emcee, A-Reece.

The two artists have previously worked together several times in the past as Zooloo was heavily affiliated with the now-defunct A-Reece-led crew, ‘The Wrecking Crew.

Their collaborations include the 2017 smash hit, ‘All Night Long,’ 2018’s Sweet Revenge, and several production efforts on Reece’s sophomore album, ‘From Me to You and Only You.’

Vector Ready to Make Another Comeback with New Single

Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly known by millions of Africans by his stage name, Vector the Viper, took to has been teasing fans with a forthcoming single, on his Instagram account @Vectorthaviper for the last week. Lanre has been quiet since he dropped the remix of his uber-lyrical collaboration with former archrival, MI Abaga; Crown of Clay, featuring Khaligraph Jones and Dip Doundou Guiss.

Fans are definitely excited about the snippets the Nigerian veteran rapper has been sharing all week, and the excitement met an all-time high as he announced the release date with a black and white picture on Tuesday, the 29th of March.

From the snippets, the song features soulful, Yoruba female vocals on the chorus, accompanied by Vector dropping catchy bars, as he is known for, on the song which is an ode to his given name, Olanrewaju.

The song release has been slated for April 7th, 2022 as Vector captioned the Instagram photo was captioned, “4-7-22′.” Are you excited for new vector?

Electronic Hip Hop artist ITUM releases ‘MINIONS’ – A Song About Power & Control

Born in the Freestate, South Africa and now based in Johannesburg, Itum has a message for the masses about always being aware of your own power and who is in control.

 MINIONS is the first single release off his forthcoming EP

ABOUT MINIONS: “The song came about after I had watched the film ” Minions” and I started questioning control and power. The inspiration behind the song is about realizing that no matter how you look at it, there is always someone else in control and we are all minions to one thing or another,” explains ITUM. MINIONS was the second song recorded after losing all of his previous songs to a computer virus.

I saw this as a revival track, as I really felt like I had lost it all with losing my musical creations previously,” says Itum.

MINIONS is one of 4 tracks to be included on the new project ” fun is yours _ you define it” releasing June 2022. ITUM delves in an international flavored style of electronic hip-hop mixed with local African elements. By mixing African percussion and an array of indigenous South African languages, his sound is African at the core, but appeals to a wider international audience. Having gained experience producing an array of other artist’s music ITUM was prepared for the release of his own sounds and styles. Having studied Music at Boston City Campus & Business College in 2017, he honed his skills and knowledge of music creation, which is evident in the latest single MINIONS.

Itum has released 3 previous projects, the first one a beat project called NEESUN, followed by his debut project ESIR and his latest space + time. Itum has had previous success with singles play-listed on numerous local stations including Tshwane FM and a chart hit single on Alex FM AMATOP 7 CHART and features on two Spotify editorial playlists.
