Legendary American Rapper Coolio Dies at 59

The man famously rapped the lyrics Death ain’t nothin’ but a heartbeat away, I’m livin’ life, do or die, what can I say, I’m 23 now, but will I live to see 24? The way things is going, I don’t know,” on his 1995 smash hit ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ has finally passed away after leaving decades beyond his gloomy lyrical prediction for his life expectancy.

The rapper who made ‘Gangster’s Paradise’ for the soundtrack of the film ‘Dangerous Minds‘ was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s LA house, his manager Jarez Posey told US media.

Coolio’s cause of death remains unclear, but his manager said the paramedics believe he died from cardiac arrest.

Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, won a Grammy for the song and went on to make other big hits in his illustrious career including the internationally known ‘See You When You Get There.’

Celebs have been pouring out their heartfelt tributes to the deceased legends including actress Michelle Pfeiffer who starred in ‘Dangerous Minds,’ Snoop Dogg, and many more.

Pfeiffer said she thought Coolio’s track was the “reason our film saw so much success” and that she still gets “chills” whenever she hears it.

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist Coolio,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a clip from the famous music video, which sees her sitting across the table from Coolio as he raps.

“A life cut entirely too short,” she continued. “I remember him being nothing but gracious.”

Coolio also ventured into Hollywood, finding himself on several big screen features including roles in films like 1997′s “Batman & Robin,” starring George Clooney.

Nota Says A-Reece Will Never Become A HipHop Superstar and Here’s Why

0

South African record label executive and controversial public figure Nota Baloyi in a recent interview with American Youtuber and African hip hop enthusiast Mansa Mayne that only Cassper Nyovest and AKA can get to the level of supernova megastardom that they currently enjoy in SA hip hop. Nota stated that nobody else has his drive to succeed beyond music and become a super CEO figure except Cassper Nyovest who has ventured into the real estate, boxing, fashion, and branded liquor industries beyond just making and selling music.

“For me, I always look for someone who got the drive and motivation that I’ve got, the only person I’ve seen in terms of drive and motivation to compare myself with is Cassper,” he said. “I don’t see anybody else no one else can drive me because I know that guy is gonna go on.”

For me, I always look for someone who got the drive and motivation that I’ve got, the only person I’ve seen in terms of drive and motivation to compare myself with is Cassper,” he said. “I don’t see anybody else no one else can drive me because I know that guy is gonna go on.”

“A-Reece has proven that he doesn’t have the drive to be number 1, he is very comfortable in being a rapper,” said NOTA.

Nota has been a notorious A-Reece detractor as far back as fans can remember, he has been known to criticize the Revenge Records founder’s decision to only rap in English and said it’s what’s stunting his career.

Albeit the constant detractions and criticisms, Nota in 2021 went on air to declare Reece’s Today’s Tragedy Tomorrow’s Memory Mixtape a classic and said that he is finally a Reece fan, popularly called slimes.

Chad da Don Says the Priddy Ugly vs Cassper Fight is Unfair and Admits He Wants to Fight His Former Boss

Former Family Trees signee Chad da Don has shared two cents concerning the upcoming Celeb City celebrity boxing match between his former boss Cassper Nyovest and Priddy Ugly. Chad took to Twitter to voice his opinions that the fight is unfair and tilted towards Nyovest’s favour, stating the weight difference between both fighters as the major reason.

Nyovest is significantly heavier than Priddy Ugly at about a difference of 15 to 20 kgs and Cassper picked Priddy as his opponent for safety. The last time Cassper fought somebody in his weight category he lost to NaakMusiq.

Chad was also asked if he would be willing to step in the ring with his former business partner given their feudal relationship in the past, the Pretoria rapper said he was ready to fight Cassper and does not need help from anybody to do so.

Even Pridy Ugly had vocalized his concerns about the weight difference between him and his opponent. The Luanda-born rapper told Sunday World publication that the boxing match might be called off if Cassper doesn’t lose weight.

“We’ll have to cancel the match if he is 95Kg on the day of the match. Cassper is in two or three categories above mine. The last time we went to weigh each other, which was weeks back, he was 32kg heavier than me.” Said Priddy Ugly. “Cassper has to lose some weight and go down to 90kg, but that will still make him 16kg heavier than me and there is limited time,” he said.

The bout tagged #CelebCity2 is slated for October 1 in Johannesburg and asides from the boxing match being the main event, there will be a variety of other spectacles including several celebrities performing to keep the crowd entertained throughout the night.

Has ‘Sete’ Dethroned ‘Caracara’ as K.O’s Biggest Song?

Hip Hop is slowly catching up with Amapiano for the summer as the two biggest SA summer hits at the moment have five rappers on them. One of those songs and unarguably the biggest song of the summer is K.O’s ‘Sete’ which features guest appearances from Durban prodigy ‘Blxckie’ and the new kid on the block Yung Stunna. K.O. promised fans that the third installment of his Skhanda Republic album franchise will be just as iconic and critically acclaimed as the first one since he failed to replicate the magic of the first one the sophomore installment. Prior to the album’s release K.O has spoken highly about the album it did not disappoint, especially the lead single ‘Sete.’

The Twenty-year veteran performed the single over the weekend and received a warm reception from fans, which prompted him to declare a bold statement on his official Twitter handle:

“Thought Caracara was my biggest moment, God said hold up big dawg! #SETE #1 across all platforms n radio at the same time, crossed double plat on Saturday! Most viral on SA TikTok with no challenge? Video 5 mil in 3 weeks!? #SR3 sitting at #1. When the blessings rain they pour,” he tweeted.

‘Sete’ became the fastest streaming single to go gold in the country’s music history, currently certified double platinum in just two months, and is number on all charts nationwide, keeping AKA and Nasty C’s ‘Lemons’ at bay for yet another week.

The song’s critical and commercial success even led the ‘Lemons’ hitmaker to openly declare admiration for K-Hova’s ability keep reinventing himself year after year and stay relevant in the music scene.

Prior to this era, K.O’s most iconic solo carer moment was with the continental smash hit ‘Caracara’ featuring KiD X in 2014. Many had thought he would never be able to replicate the success of the ode to Soweto VW Caravelle Taxis. K.O has once again proven critics wrong with the milestones set and broken by ‘Sete.’

K.O has however hinted in an interview that SR3 might be his last music project as he considers taking a back seat and monitoring the artists at his Skhanda World record label.

“I think as far as creative output, I’ve never been in a better position,” he said. I’m really in a good space as far as creating and just training art. When I started entertaining the idea of this album I was thinking about it in that light that okay cool maybe I might just like you know want to fall back after this one,” said K.O.

Rapper Kitz237 Says His Album Won’t Be Different From What He Knows “Ngess Rap”

In the buildup to releasing his forthcoming project titled “Voice Of The Streets”, Cameroon rapper, Kitz has been dropping freestyle covers to hit songs, including Nigeria’s Burna Boy Last Last’ and Ghana’s Black SheriffSoja’ hits.

With no specific release date yet, Kitz hints that the album will drop anytime soon and fans are waiting with much anticipation.

He sends the following message:

“As you all know my album VOTS is coming and to those thinking there will be some something different in my lyrics sorry to disappoint you It is still the same old “Ngess Rap” like some people call it. My lyrics is a manifestation of what is already happening. I am living my reality if my reality was deferent i will rap about something deferent. You cannot be attacking the symptom instead of the cause. I am like any other artist. I only express what is around me. When the system will Fix the issues of our community my lyrics will change and by then i will probably rap about how the government has created jobs for youths, constructed good roads and created job opportunities but before then i will only rap the reality of the moment. Thank You!”

Below is the video of the first song off the soon-to-be-released VOTS Album.

Video Directed by Wavelez. Song mixed and mastered by Kyla. Song written and performed by Kitz for B. D. A GANG MUSIC
