HipHop Africa Underground Artist Of The Week: Damideasy The CCX King

0

Every Platform Organizing, Supporting, Influencing, Promoting, Engaging or involved with Battle Rap In Africa needs to be celebrated. Battle Rap Africa, Lyrical Wars, Battle Rap Nigeria, WOTS Rap League, Bars Are Back, etc. We appreciate you all.

Hip-Hop Lovers in Nigeria would not forget The HipHop Event for long. Since its inception in August 2022, the event which started as a solo Idea from DayGenius of Battle Rap Africa birthed the merger of TASCK and M.I Abaga to create The HipHop Event platform.

One major segment of the event that hip-hop lovers come out in numbers to witness is the Battle Rap, and it is a fact from what has been going down at the event that Battle Rap is the next big thing in Nigerian HipHop.

While recording HipHop artists are becoming more relevant in today’s music landscape thanks to social media and the power it gives artists to share their music, so has Social Media influenced the wide reach of battle rappers since these creatives started posting their crafts on Youtube or other visual apps. Since their talent has been recognized, they’ve earned the widespread attention they deserve.

Damideasy is one act that caught the attention of “people of the culture”. His explosive performances last year have kept his name on the lips of many rap fanatics – and I must say not just in Nigeria.

HipHop Africa reached out to Damideasy and we inquired about how his journey as a battle rapper began.

“My battle career started at the university of Lagos where I used to win rap events. While remaining undefeated in Unilag. I was approached by Slimzy of Wrap League to try out my first battle rap performance against fuckface, ever since then, I have gone on to battle the best of the best and cemented my place in the Nigerian battle rap hall of fame. While I remain controversial outside the ring, I have also made some progressive movements for the culture.
I am a part of the Hydra battle rap group, an ex-member of WOTS Rap League and a Hennessy Alumni.”

Damideasy, real name is Damilola Igun hails from Lagos State, Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Lagos (Unilag) in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning. He is a dedicated Town Planner with skills in Animation and Graphic design.  He is a very creative individual with an imaginative mind that meets no boundaries.

Dami’s last battle in December 2022 at the End Game which was held in CCX Lounge, Lagos earned him the title and crown as the King of CCX. Dami became the first battle rapper on the grounds of CCX to ever make the title. Though it might be hard to say Damideasy clearly won all his 3 battles in the space of 5 months on the CCX soil, Dami’s explosive performances and witty-yet-relatable lines sure had the audience thrilled. Dami became a CCX favourite the moment he took on Maximum in December.

Damideasy’s next battle is probably the most anticipated battle of the year 2023. After his spar with Maximum at the End Game, people wanted to experience another Damideasy battle as they were hungry for more, but which opponent would be a good feat for the CCX Champ? Then came the Holyfield call out. Deliberations of fee for appearance and performance took the center stage of the process and… This might just be the battle with the biggest money bag.

Well! That’s about it on Damideasy, who has earned the spot as our first HipHop Underground Artist of the Week for 2023.

Thanks for reading, you just might be our HipHop Underground Artist of Next Week.

Jovi Attacks Sarkodie’s HipHop Cred, Calls Him An “Afrobeats Ambassador”

This war won’t end anytime soon.

As far as we know, it has been a continuous tussle between Sarkodie and Jovi. Both rappers have been at war for years now and it doesn’t seem like any one of them would be waving the white flag soon.

They say beef is healthy for HipHop, Cameroon Rapper and MbokoGod, Jovi has fired another shot at Ghanaian rapper and “Landlord”, Sarkodie.

Three days ago, Jovi intervened in the ongoing duel between Sarkodie and Nasty C.

Sarkodie received an unexpected blow from Cameroon’s biggest rapper, Jovi few hours after releasing a diss track against Nasty C.

The rapper took to his Social Media page to write:

“You should stick to Twi, because there we can’t tell how basic you are at writing”…

Even though Sarkodie turned a blind eye to his post, Lyrical Joe took it upon himself to attack Jovi in support of Sarkodie.

It seems Jovi isn’t ready to back down as he has once again thrown another shot at the “Labadi” crooner.

Naija Afrobeats guys don hold Ghana Music hostage take’am turn am to Afro beat playground . The Dominance is clear , the king of rap over there is the biggest naija afrobeat ambassador. Your biggest song says it all . Bruh using Afrobeat numbers to challenge Rappers . So sad – Jovi

ICYMI: Listen To “No Big Deal”, The Song Nasty C Dissed Sarkodie, Shatta Wale And A-Reece On

Everyone’s talking about Sarkodie’s reply to Nasty C. But are you really aware of how the situation began before it got heated up?

Click Here To Listen To Sarkodie’s ReplyGhanaian Rapper, Sarkodie Gets South Africans Begging For Mercy As He Brutally Lashes Nasty C In A Newly Released Diss Track Titled “Landlord”

In the early days of December 2022, heavyweight South African rapper and songwriter, Nasty C found his way into the section with an interesting single captioned “No Big Deal.”

In the song, he made mention of some names and addressed his “situationship” with them – claiming he was trying to get things off his chest.

He opened the track with the mention of Sarkodie, saying the “Landlord” refused to shake his hand when they both met for the first time. He further stated that he held a grudge against the “Jamz” crooner and promised never to give him a verse. He also claimed that Sarkodie reached out to him twice for collaboration and he turned them down.

On top of that, this special tune comes after “Ivyson Army Tour Mixtape,” his previously released debut album.

Catch the full lyrics below;

[Verse]

When I first met Sarkodie, he wouldn’t shake my hand, cool

I’m not too proud to say I’m still a fan

But I held a grudge and told myself to wait ’til I’m the man

I’ll never give that man a verse and boy, did I stick to my plan

Two requests over the years and I declined them both

I just made up some dumb excuse like “I’m in album mode”

But lookin’ back on that today, I was in coward mode

And besides, those two songs are either out or old

See this the best way I know how to get shit off my chest

I was just a disappointed fan, it’s nothin’ more or less

But now I’m over that shit and he’s got all my respect

If he asks me for a verse again, it’ll be my hardest one yet

Then I was out in Accra, media run for my album

It’s turnin’ into a mess, if you turned in you could guess

They asked me if I knew Shatta, they said he’s one of the best

My honest response ended up being twisted by the press

He understood that, so there’s really nothin’ there to address

But I thought I’d speak on it to put it to rest, and show that man some respect

Got something else I need to speak on next

I think it’s time I take this back to the nest

There’s been a couple requests

You know I tried to squash that shit with A-Reece

Hard as it was to put my pride aside, I tried to make peace

It wasn’t even no beef, that shit was petty spaghetti

Two weeks later, I’m disrespected and regret it already

Couldn’t even get on my live without people bringing him up again

I end up sayin’ “Fuck him, then”

Somethin’ that was nothin’ might really turn into somethin’ then

I don’t even know why we beefin’, dawg, but it’s up again

I’m down to go either way at this point, I’ll leave it up to him

But I fuck with 25 and I fuck with Flvme

And a lot of other dope artists that fuck with him

But I’d be dumb as fuck to ever put my trust in them

And for my two niggas I said I’d ride with until our hearses close

I won’t rap about you, it’s too personal

Just know you niggas hurt me though

And you already said some words and sadly there’s no reversin’ those

[Outro]

Just getting shit off my chest, you know?

And I can promise you, I mean no malice to anybody I spoke on, none

Like I said, I’m just gettin’ shit off my chest

You’re more than welcome to take it however you wanna take it, I don’t think that’s up to me

It never has been

So-

And these are just a few, of the many, many things I need to get off my chest and speak on and just-, let go

And I guess that’s why I make albums

Anyway, rest in peace to my little brother Yoshi

We love you kid, and we miss you

I am so grateful for every second I got to spend with you, man

Changed the way I view life

And a lot of people say shit like that just because someone’s gone

I’m glad I got to tell you this to your face while you were here

One of the best people I’ve ever met, swear down

Ghanaian Rapper, Sarkodie Gets South Africans Begging For Mercy As He Brutally Lashes Nasty C In A Newly Released Diss Track Titled “Landlord”

Sarkodie started the year on a heavy note as he lashed out at South African rapper, Nasty C.

“I was rapping when you were still in the womb // Next time you see me , just grab a marker and get an autograph, i don’t need to shake your hand “. – Sarkodie

Sarkodie really went hard on Nasty C.

He even called Nasty C a liar for claiming he tried to reach out to him for a Collab.

“They roughed me [the fuck] up but the love overpowered it,” Meek Mill captioned the video footage below. “Almost went from dreams to nightmares quick. Lol.”

Despite Meek Mill successfully fending off the overzealous crowd and living to joke about it on social media, the Dreams and Nightmares MC also claims to have had his phone stolen at some point during the pandemonium.

Meek Mill Robbed In Ghana

The American rapper, Robert Rihmeek Williams, also known as Meek Mill, lost his phone to thieves in Ghana during the Afronation concert. The 35-year-old reacted to the incident and took to his Instagram stories on Friday.

“SMH! bring that jawn back if you got it.”

Shatta Wale’s Intervention

Aside from having his phone snatched, it appears as though Meek Mill has not only endeared the people of Ghana but is also in the good graces of Ghanaian musicians as well. Upon hearing the news of Meek’s stolen phone, popular dancehall artist Shatta Wale hit up Twitter with a message to the streets of Ghana.

“Streetz, if you know you have Meek Mill’s phone, please return if that’s true,” tweeted Shatta. “You can’t do that to a real hustler. By [tomorrow] morning, return a.m. Meek inspires all of us on the street a lot.”
