Born Aminata “Nata” Bangura in The Bronx, New York but also raised in New Jersey— both areas had shaped her insight and love for Hip Hop culture (alongside being first generation Sierra Leonean- American).
From singing in school/church choirs, being in dance teams and writing poetry; Nata has always had a musical background since the earliest of 7 years old. Hip-hop became a huge influence for her at the start of middle school when she discovered older artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Diggable Planets, Common and more. As the years passed on her knowledge and strength in metaphors, double entendres and the importance of cadence grew although just being a listener.
2017, her last year of college, was the start of her switch from writing poems to rhymes. Artists like JayZ, Dipset, Missy Elliot, and Lauryn Hill influenced her interest.
2018 however, was the first time she put out an official freestyle and has being consistent since then. “Finally” the EP, was her first collective of music to ever drop on February 22, 2019.
In 2020, not only did she release her biggest record at 40K views now on YouTube “Art Thou”, but has been recognized by the likes of HOT 97, Missy Elliot & more. Nata strives to be a product for not only Hip Hop culture but for music in general.
In 2021, the US-based Sierra Leonean artist Nata was nominated in three different categories at the AFRIMA. She was the only Sierra Leonean nominated for that year along with Sarkodie, Nasty C, Ladipoe, Khaligraph Jones, Vector and others.
Newcomer Nata aka “Rap Sweetheart” was nominated in the categories of Best African Rapper/ Lyricist, Best Female Artist in International Music and Best African Act in Diaspora (Female).
The next year, she was again nominated in the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2022 in two categories of Best African Act in Diaspora (Female) and Best African Rapper/Lyricist for her track ’94’.

This week on HipHop Liestyle, we take a look at the luxurious life of Ghanaian rapper, Medikal and his love for cars.
In 2003, Nate Dogg posed a question that keeps rappers up at night: “Could you love me on a bus?” he crooned on the chorus of 50 Cent’s hit “21 Questions.” Fiddy raises an equally important conundrum on the same track: “If I went back to a hoopty from a Benz / Would you poof and disappear, like some of my friends?” If ever there was a song to remind the listener that you’re not a baller unless you own expensive cars, this is it.
Cars and hip-hop go together like gin and juice: they are an essential ingredient in that complex lyrical hierarchy that tells your peers that you have climbed that ladder of success a few rungs higher.
Samuel Adu Frimpong (born 4 April 1994), popularly known as Medikal, is a Ghanaian hip hop musician born to Portia Lamptey and James Frimpong in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.
He comes from Sowutuom, a suburb in Accra, Ghana. Medikal and Sarkodie had the highest nominations for the 2017 edition of the Ghana Music Awards. In 2018, he was on the Tim Westwood Show. Medikal had his high school education at Odorgonno Senior High. He is the son of James Frimpong and Portia Lamptey. Samuel adopted the name Medikal because he was fascinated with rapping about doctors, surgeons, medical practitioners and hospitals in general. He has made a name for himself in the music industry through hard work and numerous collaboration with successful artists. Apart from his nominations in 2017, he won the best discovery video in the MTN 4Syte Video Award in 2016.
He is known for his taste for luxurious cars. Top-notch cars owned by Medikal include Benz C300, Range Rover Vogue, Chevrolet Camaro and many more.
