HipHop Lifestyle: A Peep At Naira Marley’s Canine Love

Dogs have played a role in hip-hop for decades, from the animated artwork on Too Short’s 1990 album Short Dog’s in the House to the motley of mutts Snoop Dogg had on early covers to DMX’s snarling, barking ad-libs. (The latter two were later featured on Timbaland and Swizz Beat’s ultra-popular Verzuz series, in an episode called Battle Of The Dogs; the promotional material featured Snoop as a blue-eyed Doberman and X as a red-eyed Pitbull.) But outside a few exceptions, the genre’s doggy iconography has recently shifted. The days of rappers using big, muscular dogs with sharp teeth as stand-ins for their toughness have given way to something a bit cuddlier.

Naira Marley from Nigeria is a dog lover so it’s no news that his pets live more comfortably than some human beings.

The singer and record label boss, shared a cute video of his furry friends during dinner time, on his Instagram page on Wednesday, November 30.

In the clip, Naira Marley showed off the meal of full chicken that each canine gets for dinner and the struggle by each one of them to secure its meal first.

This was definitely not the first time Naira Marley had been doing so. In August of 2022, the Nigerian rapper and singer, Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley, made an interesting quote on his verified Instagram page.

The First Time in America crooner noted that the world should be a better place if everyone could love dogs.

Sharing a video of himself and dogs playing, he wrote, “The world would be a better place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog”

By the way the big brown furry ones are only 4 months and 3 weeks old now. Drop a comment if you’re a dog lover. Don’t forget to stream that new zino C.O.D.”

Check out more videos from his Instagram account.

Ikechukwu Returns To The Music Scene Rocking “White Givenchys”

Nigerian rapper Ikechukwu returns with a brand new video for his new offering, dubbed “White Givenchys.”

Taking on a chill vibe, the accompanied visual matches the energy on the track, as IK goes solo on the verse chilling in his white attire in a home all on his own.

Initially, early in the year, The WFA‘s OG, Ikechukwu released the audio of White Givenchys. The eMCee left the 3rd verse open to rappers for the remix.

Oh His Health Issues

The veteran rapper has always been a main force behind Nigerian hip-hop but after dealing with some health issues recently it’s clear Ikechukwu is back in full effect.

He spoke out about his current health issues which have rendered him bedridden.

Ikechukwu shared his experiences during a Daddy Freeze Instagram Live session.

The singer claimed he is currently suffering from an illness called herniated disc and acute sciatica which have rendered his entire right side paralyzed.

He stated that the illness has kept him bedridden and he is currently using crutches.

When asked if he was still in Nigeria, Ikechuckwu said he left the country already to seek better medical care abroad after being dissatisfied with what he got.

He said, “Baba I get herniated disc and acute sciatica and it paralyzed my whole right side, lumbar 4 and 5. A whole me can you imagine, na bed wen I don dey since.

Baba, if you see me, I’m not same person you knew before, the guy who does backflips left and right.

“To waka dey pain me. I no fit waka.

“I pulled it on the 17th in the morning, and instead of calming down, I went to a show I was booked for, the following day, I couldn’t get out of bed. After two more days of dealing with the pain, I had to rush to Evercare Hospital around 3 a.m.

“They put drips in both of my hands with painkillers, which only lasted a little bit, and I no won risk my life with Nigerian healthcare again, so I just got a ticket straight to Yankee.”

New Discovery: Chindo Says She is The “Chick Weh Know” On “Sabii” Mixtape

Young Cameroon female rapper, Chindo who emerged winner of Tzy Panchak’s #fortheculture challenge in 2020 has announced the release of her mixtape titled “SABII

The 11-track mixtape serves as a reminder that sometimes we all need to stop, look back & appreciate those that have done it before us.

The mixtape drops today, 30th of January 2023. Anticipate!

Chindo took to her social media page to express how special the Mixtape was to her and how intentional her choice of artists on the project was.

“Sabii Mixtape is so special and the list of artistes I picked are all intentional. Another list of artistes will be on the part 2 of the mixtape. These are some of the artistes on Sabii mixtape and why I chose them.

1- KROTAL

I respect Krotal for being one of pioneers of Cameroonian Hip Hop. It is thanks to their passion that we are here today. I therefore worked on his song “Vert, Rouge, Jaune” to express my love for my country Cameroon. Same love he had for Cameroon years back. Thank you for inspiring me legend. The title of the song is “Kamer Luv”.

2- Jovi

Thanks to Jovi’s genius and creativity, we learned what consistency and hardwork is to a Cameroonian artistes. He gave us the hope to believe in the art and he is still among us. I did a freestyle on his “Et P8 Koi” instrumentals and included it on my mixtape. It is titled “Fearless freestyle”.

3- Maahlox

Maahlox has been emblematic in Cameroonian Hip Hop too. Though very difficult in Cameroon, Maahlox was among the first rappers to fill the PAPOSY in Cameroon. Also, his outspoken and raw nature as an artistes pushed me to not be afraid to speak my mind. I worked on his “Ça ne rit pas” instrumentals and created “Smirk”, which is the 6th song on the mixtape.

4- MI Abaga and @Vector

I Abaga still stands as one of the greatest rappers the African continent ever produced. I respect his wisdom and knowledge of music in general. I was inspired by his song “Money” from the “Talk About It” album. The song is titled “Manna”. Vector is also an indisputable lyricist I admire, so I worked on this song because they originally featured together on the song.

5- Other American rappers who inspired me on this project are Drake, Mobb Deep, Lloyd Banks and Tank. Stanley Enow, AKA and many others are on part 2 of the project…

Thank you to all these legends for paving the way for me. I promise not to disappoint you. The “Sabii” mixtape drops on Monday. Thank you for waiting.

#ThrowBackThursday: 2004, The Eedris Abdulkareem Hip-Hop Era In Nigeria

The Nigeria election is less than 40 days away and the state of the country is still “Jaga Jaga”.

Eedris AbdulKareem is one of the most popular old-school artists in Nigeria who reigned in the late ’90s and early ’20s.

Aside from being an artiste, Eedris is known to be an activist who used his songs to tackle the Nigerian government.

Hip-hop music star, Eedris Abdulkareem is not new in the controversy game. His ‘jaga jaga’ songs have always landed him in trouble.

In April 2021, he was taken to the cleaner by Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo for disparaging him in his new release, ‘Jaga Jaga reloaded,’ Abdulkareem had a running battle with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2004 when he first released his song ‘Jaga Jaga’.

In that song, Abdulkareem sang “Nigeria jaga jaga, everything scatter scatter, poor man dey suffer suffer, Gbosa, gbosa…”

The song annoyed Obasanjo and he cursed Abdulkareem. The former president banned the song from the radio, but it continued to be played in nightclubs.

Years later in 2012, Obasanjo never forgave Abdulkareem as he attacked him again for releasing that song years back.

Speaking at an event organized by Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI) in 2012, Obasanjo attacked Abdulkareem again, condemning the song in the strongest term.

The former president said “one of the worst problems Nigeria is facing is disbelief. Nigerians no longer believe in themselves nor do they believe in their country.

“That takes me back to that song ‘jaga jaga’. How could a sane man dare to call his country jaja jaja? It is the height of blasphemy.

“We are grooming our youths for tomorrow’s leadership and with such persons, I don’t think the country can move forward.”

Abdulkareem in a new song, ‘Letter to Obasanjo,’ in 2018 attacked the former Army general.

He said Obasanjo served as a military president and also a civilian president and that he had the opportunity to correct the wrongs.

“He was selfish and wanted a third term by all means. His administration recorded too many killings and assassinations. He’s very selfish and wanted to rule Nigeria forever,” he had said.

Nothing much was heard of Abdulkareem until he attacked Keyamo in his new song ‘Jaga Jaga reloaded.’

Abdulkareem’s new song, ‘jagajaga reloaded’ disparaged Keyamo, saying “where Festus Keyamo sef? He don dey chop with cabal o.”

An angry Keyamo took to his Twitter handle and released different private conversations he had with Abdulkareem, how he allegedly begged for money.

Artist Name: Eedris Abdulkareem

Track Title: Jaga Jaga

Recorded: 2004 Music

Country: Naija Music

Album Name: Jaga Jaga Album

The soundtrack “Jaga Jaga” was dished out by music activist Eedris Abdulkareem. This enchanting euphony was used to address some of the vices that are happening in the country of Nigeria. Trust me, the messages on this track cannot be overemphasized.

It was this joint “Jaga Jaga” that gave the legend Eedris Abdulkareem all the respect and recognition he enjoys today in the industry. Even though this song hits the politicians and ruling class directly, the veteran singer dished it out without fear or favour to anyone.

The record “Jaga Jaga” is another harmony that retains its replay value. It will ever remain evergreen especially when most of the things Eedris complained about in the song are still reoccurring after many years.

Suppose you are familiar with the Nigerian entertainment industry. In that case, you must have heard of the clash between the Veteran Nigerian Rapper, Eedris Abdulkareem and the Legendary American Rapper 50 cent in 2004.

The 2004 clash however came into the limelight again when Eedris Abdulkareem took to social media to drag Charly Boy, who was then the president of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) over the role he played during the clash in 2004.

Charly Boy had earlier described Eedris Abdulkareem as an “ungrateful son” while stating that he chased 50 Cent and his team out of Nigeria for physically assaulting Eedris Abdulkareem and was locked up by the Nigerian Police for one month on the order of the Nigerian Breweries

Responding to Charly Boy’s  claim, Edris Abdulkareem called out the veteran singer in a series of posts accusing him of trying “to take the glory that belongs to him.”

He also alleged that the Charly Boysold him out” and collected N70 million from the Nigerian Breweries to blackmail him. He further stated that Charly Boy collected the evidence of the attack by 50 Cent and G-unit from one DJ Tee who recorded everything that happened on that day.

WHAT CAUSED EEDRIS ABDULKAREEM & 50 CENT’S CLASH IN 2004

50 Cent visited Nigeria in 2004 alongside his crew headlining a four-city concert tagged ‘Star Mega Jams. The concert held in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Benin featured the then Nigeria Stars such as Daddy Showkey, Eedris Abulkareem himself,  Abass Akande Obesere, Tony Tetula and many many others.

The Concert began in Abuja on Wednesday the 3rd of December 2004 and was held at the Eagle Square ground in Garki. The show which was hosted by the Famous Gbenga Adeyinka first saw the performance of Tony One-Week, One of Nigeria’s most promising singers at that time.

After Tony One-Week performance, 50 Cent and his G Unit group took to the stage to give an overwhelming performance despite the poor sound production from the woofers.

Shortly after he began his performance the crowd surged threateningly forward to touch him. While the security attempted to push the crowd back, he screamed: “Leave ma people! Let ma brothas come near!”

He further sealed the memorable night when he brought out a bundle of $50 notes and spray into the teeming crowd who scrambled to grab the notes. He did this three times at intervals spraying about $15,000 before wrapping up his performance in Abuja. He would repeat the same act during his performance in Lagos.

After 50 Cent performance, Daddy Showkey took the stage and thrilled the audience with his music and Galala style. Daddy Showkey’s performance was followed by Eedris Abdul Kareem who seem to have an issue with 50 Cent  when  he grabbed the microphone, and said: “50 Cent na oga for America, me I be Oga for rap for Nigeria!

The Concert in Abuja was closed after Abass Akande Obesere entertained the audience with his Fuji tunes.

On Friday the 3rd of December 2004, the second round of the concert was held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State, the invited artiste gave the audience a double portion of the thrilling performance they had in Abuja until when Eedris took the stage after 50 cent’s performance where he claimed he is the the ‘oga of rap music in Nigeria’,  the chides for scrambling for the money 50 Cent threw to the crowd. “Him dey try tell us say Nigerians na beggars? This na insult on my people.

THE CLASH BETWEEN EEDRIS ABDULKAREEM & 50 CENT

The clash however happened when Eedris Abdulkareem put up a fight with 50 Cent’s crew over sitting arrangement in the Aeroplane chattered for the purpose of conveying the American rap icon to the concert venues.

According to reports, while waiting at the airport lounge minutes before he boarded the plane, he had promised that “I am going to show these people (organisers) that Nigerian artistes deserve respect.”

Once onboard, he deliberately sat on the very seat reserved for 50 Cent in the first-class compartment of the aircraft insisting that “This is where I am going to sit!”. The same first-class seat he bluntly declined two days earlier.

And as narrated by eyewitnesses, one thing led to the other, and a scuffle ensued between his men and those of 50 Cent. An embarrassed Eedris who had one of his thugs injured reportedly ranted: “Let us get to Port Harcourt, 50 Cent, I will show you that this is my country. I will deal with you.

50 Cent and his band had to leave the country prematurely on the advice of the American Embassy in Nigeria.

EEDRIS ABDULKAREEM KIDNEY TRANSPLANT

Recall that in 2022, Eedris was diagnosed with kidney failure and went through dialysis. His wife Yetunde later donated her kidney to him. The surgery was successful and the “Jaga Jaga” singer took to his Instagram account where he posted a picture of himself with the caption; “Thank you ALLAH for the healing and recovery. Thank you for giving me strength and good health. YA ALLAH I am grateful. Alhamdulillah Juma’at Mubarak my people.”

The artiste’s record label, Lakreem Entertainment Inc, had also given an update on his health in August.

His management, in a statement issued by Hon. Myke Pam, said the singer had successfully undergone a kidney transplant.

The statement read, “As the recuperation and healing process begins for both of them, with the best that science can offer, under the ever benevolent gaze of the Almighty God, surrounded by the love and care of family, we ask that the prayers and support be sustained as they gradually get back on their feet again,”

WomanCrushWednesday: Kenya’s “Femi One” Keeps Setting Records In East Africa

In 2020 just when the world was put on lockdown thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, rapper Femi One managed to keep her fans entertained in the comfort of their homes after she released the song ‘Utawezana’ that became an internet sensation thanks to a dance challenge started by Tik Tok star Azziad Nasenya.

In 2021, she made history by becoming the first African Female Brand Ambassador for Monster Energy Drink.

The Adonai hit-maker also holds the number spot as the female rapper with the most YouTube subscribers in the whole of East Africa.

Since then, Femi One has been releasing music keeping her name at the top of the charts. Her hard work and consistency seem to be paying off after being crowned 2022 Best Female rapper of the year at the Afrima awards.

“This adds up to the many highlights of my career because I think this makes me the first female rapper in Kenya and East Africa to win in the category,” Femi One said.

Femi battled it out with rapper Fena Gitu (Kenya), Ms Banks (Nigeria), Nata (Sierra Leone), Feli Nuna (Ghana), Candy Bleakz (Nigeria) and Rosa Ree (Tanzania).

Other winners from East Africa include Tanzanian singers Rayvanny and Zuchu who won Best Male and Female East Africa, respectively.

“I have been very consistent in making sure I produce music and I believe this has helped me get the recognition that I am now getting beyond Kenya and across the continent,” Femi One said.

Rapper Femi One started her career 10 years ago after featuring in the ‘Ligi Soo’ remix song by King Kaka.

She was later signed by Kaka Empire, a record label owned by King Kaka, real name Kennedy Ombima. She went ahead to release the hits ‘Tippy toe’ and ‘Utawezana

This is the best time to be a Kenyan artiste, we are seeing a lot of new blood in the industry who are doing an amazing job. Kenyan artistes are doing the work but we are not getting enough media publicity. I also believe that some people who have influence are trying to push for a negative narrative about us. As artistes we are involved in major projects, we are getting endorsement deals and we are also doing music collaborations,” Femi One said.

Some of the success stories she says are lost in between clout chasing artistes who dominate the headlines.

She has spent her career engaged in a battle against being boxed in and has on several occasions remarked that women encounter more challenges in the music industry than men.

“It’s harder to become known purely for talent than for looks,” she remarked.

The Kaka Empire record label signee has contended with these double standards and expectations to emerge hip-hop champion whose rapping skills have ensured her continued relevance in the genre.

All the years I have been an artiste I learned that consistency is key; you cannot afford to be one-hit-wonder. A good management team is also important for support and people who go out of their way to make sure your career is on an upward trajectory. Patience is also very important because sometimes things might not work out as planned,” she said.

“I remember when I released my first hit song ‘Tippy Toe’, it did so well that I started feeling anxious about my next song, will it do as great and even surpass its numbers, or would I be a one-hit wonder who is only remembered by one song from an entire album? I would postpone the next release and if you were keen there was a time I went silent; there was no music. But I am glad I was able to get over this because then came ‘Utawezana’ and many others after.”

Femi used to be a tomboy until after she joined Kaka Empire and rebranded herself.

Music Career

Femi one was introduced to the scene by King Kaka in his major hit ‘Ligi Soo’ remix. For the longest time, she referred to herself as Femi One Shiku. Femi one appeared in one half of the song with other female rappers and she really stood out for her flow and demeanour in the song. It was a major break for her career and Kaka took her under his management by signing her to Kaka Empire.

She has since made a name for herself with her signature sheng rap music and her much-needed attitude to carry any hip-hop song. She has collaborated with many heavy hitters in the industry such as Mejja, King Kaka and many more. Femi One Shiku has also morphed into Femi One and is the most consistent female rapper in Kenya.

Show Yoh’s Lifestyle: Rocking The 90s Hip-Hop Dressing Style

The Rapper Has positioned himself more of a Comedian because of this 90’s Hip Hop Dressing Style.

As popular as this guy gradually becomes he is best known for his 90s and early 2000s Hip-hop fashion style. You will simply love the guy at first sight because he evokes the nostalgia of Hip Hop in this era (Late 90s and Early 2000s). Huge jackets, snapbacks, large diamond bling, and baggy everything made 90’s hip-hop fashion big. Truth be told that’s how and why we discovered Show Yoh.

There’s little or no information about who Show Yoh Really is, his age, background, origin, etc but his bizarre sense of fashion has attracted the likes of Blaise B, Locko, President Tchop Tchop, X Maleya, Riddimz, etchttps://www.instagram.com/p/CkBwZtDtwYa/?hl=enSo You know what real hip-hop music lovers look for in rap are good lyrics (not necessarily a meaning, or something deep, but good wordplay, flow, metaphors, euphemisms allegories, structure), a good, memorable beat, etc. But Show Yoh is reversing those ones and putting shame on Cameroonian Hip Hop. At times when there is an “Alleged Hip Hop War’ as Ghanian lyricist – Lyrical Joe Keeps throwing Jabs at Cameroon Hip-Hop and its “god” Jovi and over a dozen top-notch Cameronian hip-hop lyricist have responded with memorable diss songs including the recent One Stone by King B and the controversial truth Untold by MD Lyonga.https://www.instagram.com/p/CjOK_7EBnZ_/?hl=enWhat Africa and the world need to know is that there are talented, creative, and innovative rappers in Cameroon, not Show Yoh who has little or nothing to bring to the table as far as real hip-hop music is concerned. He is simply the worst of the worst in the genre and many can agree that truly he represents one of the super wack rappers out there.
Jovi and Newbell Music (Pascal, Tilla), Mic Monsta, Rhyme Qilla, Sparx The Virus, Melcube, Flyhabit, Blueprint Hakeem, Mc Neillex, Askia, Tenor, MD Lyonga, Skiezy Ayenkea, Wan Shey, Young Holiday, Zee JM, Ngoma, etc and a whole load of them —are some of Cameroon’s best lyricist, the true symbol of hip-hop for the culture. But if Show Yoh is gradually gaining fame, he should be rather labeled a comedian than a hip-hop act.https://www.instagram.com/p/CjMBcFhhbdR/?hl=enBack when he was just introduced into the light I and some people easily fell in love with his brand, though funny it reminded us of Camron and the Dipset, Nelly, 50 Cent; all those American Rap superstars who ruled the early 2000s with hit rap songs and crazy fashion.

I said to myself, if Show Yoh can dress like this, it means this guy has some history of true hip hop and I could easily bet that he should be a super dope lyricist. But to my biggest dismay, he made his debut with one of the worst songs ever recorded in rap history.

Ban Street-Hop Sensation Portable New Song, MURIC To NBC

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission to ban the latest single by Street-hop act Portable, stating the song encourages ritual killing.

On Friday, 20th January 2023, Portable released a new single titled ‘Kuku Do Ritual’ in which he addressed the desire for wealth and ask those who wish for money to resort to diabolical means to get money as death is the general conclusion for all human beings irrespective of their actions.

According to MURIC, the song will encourage ritual or killing amongst the youths who make up Portable’s listeners and over whom he holds significant influence.

In a statement on Monday, 23rd January 2023, MURIC Director Dr. Ishaq Akintola, stated that the song is an open invitation to criminality and demand that the government acts to curb the the negative effect it has on the youth.

“We find this song disgusting, detestable and egregious. It is a brazen assault on Nigerian and African values. Portable’s latest song has reduced human life to the level of ordinary ants that can be stamped out under human feet without qualms and without consequences. It is an open invitation to criminality. It makes a mockery of law and order. It is an open disrespect for human life,” it reads.

“This song has the capacity to influence our young ones in a negative manner. It is also capable of destroying the future of the youth. Something must be done urgently. Already, there are several reports of young ones engaging in shameful acts for the purpose of getting rich at their tender ages.

“MURIC calls on all men of goodwill, all mothers in Nigeria, Muslim and Christian leaders to rise against the madness called Yahoo Yahoo and ritual killings among young ones whose ambassador has just released this horrendous song in their praise. ‘Kuku Do Ritual’ is nothing but a eulogy to glorify and elevate the names of ritual killers to high heaven.

“This album calls for immediate action from Nigeria’s traditional rulers. They are the custodians of our tradition. We, therefore, take our cry for help to these royal fathers to speak up on this sacrilegious song released by ‘Portable’. They must put pressure on the authorities to stop the circulation and broadcast of this album on any radio or television station and through any medium whatsoever”.

MURIC called on the government and relevant stakeholders to take necessary action against the singer.

“We invite the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the Performing Musicians’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to take necessary action with military dispatch,” it added.

“We see no reason why the security agencies should not investigate the author of this most embarrassing and irrational song to explain the number of rituals in which he has indulged. A scapegoat must be made of this album and its artist before the trend escalates.

“Nobody should hide behind artistic privilege, poetic licence or freedom of expression to launch a such barbaric offensive on our culture, our norms and our values. This is beyond free speech. It is criminal speech. It is incitement to commit murder. It is instigation to criminality. It is a bestial invasion of decency and good manners.”

Since breaking into the mainstream in 2021, Portable has gone on to achieve success while also becoming a troubleshooting artist whose music and antics have polarized views.
