The ‘Sosh Plata remix’ is a defining moment for the emerging artist, and is his official initiation into the mainstream if Mzansi hip hop; the audio is currently sitting on 205K views on YouTube.

Almost immediately after he debuted with the ‘Hood Misunderstood EP’ in June 2022, Pounds got to a few people’s notice by appearing on Icemanbeatz’s ‘Airforce E Black’, ‘Evident’ by Kaydence; and IMP THA DON’s ode to car-spinning culture, ‘4 Pipe’, a song that put him on the map for his exceptional verse.

Even IMP heard him on ‘Beke le Beke’ and decided he wanted to work with him, both IMP and Kaydence are members of A-Reece’s camp and since he impressed on his collaborations with them, in no time Pounds found himself in the studio with Baby Boy himself and they did a song that would appear on Reece’s 420 tape ‘The Burning Tree.’

In 2022 Pounds got on several prestigious stages including Homecoming Africa festival, Streetfest, Tshwanefontein, and Road to Reece Effect.

The Homecoming Events ‘Artist on the Rise’ competition Winner was able to go from local gigs to doing over 40 gigs Nationwide from Limpopo to the Cape.

The ‘Sosh Plata Remix’ with 25k and Thapelo Ghutra is now his biggest claim to fame yet and he looks nothing like one who is about to slow down, the sing hit over 200k views on YouTube and A-Reece christened it the biggest hip hop in the whole country.

Imagine achieving a feat so big that it brings A-Reece out of social media retirement to come make the announcement on his Instagram story.

He has turned his trademark catchphrase “punyete” into a brand that consists of merch, a record label an event series called Punyete Picnic, which he hosts annually in Pretoria.

Watch for Loatinover Pounds in 2023, definition one of them ones to keep an eye on in the ever bubbling hub of emerging talents in Mzansi hip hop.

Pretoria is taking over the game.

It’s no surprise his management team has decided to gift him with two brand-new cars, a gesture to further celebrate the VGMA win.

The rapper who had clinched the award after winning the likes of Sakordie, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Camidoh, Kidi and others, has continued to show that he was born for these.

We at HiphopAfrica will continue to look forward to what the rapper has in store for us.

Flvme Has His Equipment Stolen, “I Got Robbed”

While in high spirits working on new music planned to drop this winter, Flvme became the unfortunate victim of crime and had his music equipment stolen from him.

“I got robbed today, laptop and music gone,” tweeted the devastated rapper this morning. Though the who and how is not known at this point, many are glad Flvme is alive and safe.

He received an outpour of messages and comments from fans and industry mates alike, expressing their support while also happy that he’s still with us.

This is unfortunately not the first time an artist faces such a devastating loss of their equipment to theft. Late rapper, HHP revealed that he once opened his home studio for young artists to use, only to have his hard drives stolen, never to be seen again.

We sympathize with Flvme and hope that through this ordeal, he finds a silver lining and as he said “what God has in store.”

Dj Clen hasn’t released much this year but word on the street is that he has an album in the works and it sounds amazing. Keep your eyes peeled for another viral moment.

23′ Blaq Street: 5 Times Blaqbonez Has Gone HAM on a song in 2023.

Emeka Akumefule did not come to the game to play. Before getting his major deal with Chocolate City in 2018, Emeka had already dropped 7 projects and was showing no signs of slowing down. His mixtape ‘Last Time Under’ like the title prophesied was really his las time under the radar as it garnered him a Falz and MI collaboration on ‘Bad Boy,’ and an AQ Co-Sign, which later became a contract with both the latter’s 100 Crowns and the former’s Chocolate City. Since his major label debut album ‘Bad Boy Blaq’ in 2018, Akumefule has dropped three more projects and two deluxes in five years, killing features and collaborations along the way.

In big 2023, Blaqbonez has already been on more than five songs, as a feature and as a lead artiste respectively.

Below are the 5 times Mr. BBC absolutely went HAM on a track in 2023:

BREAKING THE YOKE OF LOVE:

Pastor Blaqbonez began the year prepping for the second annual edition of his ‘Breaking The Yoke of Love’ Valentine’s day crusade (concert). The song if the same title where he recruited the services of The Voice Nigeria alumni Chike and emerging vocal Queen Raybekah to offer a magnificent pro-polygamy, and anti-exclusivity in romance choral anthem.

The choir and Chike set the stage for Blaq to deliver a stunning verse that music fans can forget in a hurry, I mean who begins a verse with “fvvk Cinderella, fvvk Beauty and the beast…”?

WO WO REMIX:

Arguably the most jumped on instrumental of the year, Blaqbonez was more fortunate than the rest to feature on the original version by Minz, also featuring BNXN fka Buju.

I know we all remember the stellar “Mr. knackademua said he wouldn’t pay us, after all the work we put in for Lagos” verse. And that shot at a certain Mavins artiste, “we the ones disturbing artists on labels…don’t compare an AK to a damn Luger.”

Blaqbonez delivered a calm but braggadocios and audacious blessings checklist of a verse. Alluding to his success from his legal hustles with the line:

“Rich as f**k and we still stacking, six bed mansion for this Lekki and I no kill person.”

LOTTO:

Nigerian singer Lago recruited Blaq for his single ‘Lotto’ where Blaq dusts up his patois alter-ego Mr. Boombastic and delivers a ragga verse about head and other luxuries of life, especially those on four wheels.

HALLELUJAH:

“Buju say he wan race me, Tell am we go do am unfailingly, yeah
CKay bought a AMG,
So it’s three bad boys with V8 engines.”

This verse is still making waves around social media, Blaq mazes between autotuned trap, so Yoruba laden singing in a few unforgettable seconds.

May has been quite busy for Emeka as the Collab with fellow OAU alumni CKay is just the second of three releases this month and we’re not even halfway through the month.
That’s an amazing but an unsurprising feat as Emeka is known as the epitome of music business hustle in west Africa, if not the whole continent.

CINDERELLA GIRL:

Legendary American rapper Ludacris alongside other American artistes like Vic Mensa have been in and out of the Gold Coast since the West African country announced the year of return in 2019, and have been working with African artists.

Blaqbonez revealed in a tweet that the ‘Chicken and Beer’ rapper’s team flew him out to Ghana to work with him.

https://twitter.com/BlaqBonez/status/1657019379605749762?t=30PNVgrXvMBbIV4dS9krYQ&s=19

Raw and uncut Blaqbonez rapping about fellatio once again, President Blaq turns the Disney fairytale princess to a city girl on this one and Luda (I know all of you just screamed that name in your head) delivered a monster of the verse, back like he never left.

Hard to not imagine what he must have cooked up with Sarkodie, as they have been spotted together in the studio several times.

BNXN Taps into His Inner Rapper on ‘Pray’

Akwa Ibom born and Lagos bred Nigerian Afrobeats singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN, formerly Buju, has released his latest single, titled ‘Pray,’ accompanied by a TG Omori directed video.

The song is a melodic thanksgiving that shines a light on BNXN’s struggles as he tries to break into the music industry and the second verse celebrates his accomplishments so far.

That second verse is what has had Nigerian twitter raving, as a lot of fans point out that the ‘Feeling’ singer sounded a lot like a rapper on the verse, as he employed the use of double time couplet rhyme schemes on the verse that goes:

“just duppy two shows, killed that on the same night
The same night I was thinking ’bout date nights
With shawty and you know it’s her favorite
Her fine face and her body on skin tight
Skin tight so you know it all fits right
Man this year I was giving them fist fights
Fighting all my demons at midnight
While blowing bare gas through my windpipe
I told ’em not to sleep on my shit, right?
Now I’m at the O2 past midnight
I’m playing two nights and I’m outside
Feels right and you know it all feels right”

BNXN before blowing up as an Afrobeats artist, like quite a number of some of his colleagues in the genre—started out as a rapper.

Some other Afrobeats artists today who began their careers as rappers include Fireboy, Burna Boy, Victony, Omah Lay, Rema, Swayvee etc.
