Sarkodie set to become 1st African artist to host music concert on Dubai desert

Ghanaian superstar rapper Sarkodie announced on social media he will be staging his Rapperholic concert in the desert of Dubai. This will make the Ghanaian rapper the first African artiste to host a musical concert on the deserts of UAE. A lot of music videos are often shot in the desert with Sarkodie not being left out , however the UAE desert has not witnessed a full-blown music concert with a live performance from an artiste.

Accordingly, this will become historic and spectacular to watch as it means musical and cinematography equipment with other logistics needed to stage a music concert will be transported to the lonely desert for the show.

Earlier this month, the rapper whilst in Dubai dropped a hint about the concert when he said he shared a post to say ” I think a virtual concert on the desert won’t be a bad idea what y’all think ? We still out here in Dubai if y’all wanna see this happen hit up @ceekvr in the comments”.

According to Sarkodie who has been in the U.K, all has been put in place and he will be hosting a virtual Rapperholic show in the UAE desert.

“Back to Dubai this weekend and big shouts to @CEEK they making it possible for a quick performance this Sunday 20th march on the desert !!! SARKNATION sign up and let’s have fun http://Ceek.com right after we vibe on Twitter space!”.

My activism not for political gains — Ruggedman

Veteran rapper and activist, Michael Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has said he does not defend celebrities in the entertainment industry when they get into trouble because they don’t stand up for people despite having strong platforms.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “Although celebrities have a choice not to get involved in demanding for good governance and an end to human rights abuse, they would be lying if they claim not to know what is going on in the country. That just don’t want to get involved, and I don’t blame them. Some of them even have bigger platforms than I do, and they are not using it to support people. Some people have asked why I don’t get involved whenever a celebrity gets into trouble with the police or others, and I always tell them that I don’t do that because they have failed to use their platforms to help the people.”

Ruggedman also stated that making skits and acting in movies are not new to him. He said, “I have always spoken up for the voiceless but I started making skits on human rights and legal issues to teach people, while also entertaining them. I am not new to acting. I have been doing for a while. Recently, I featured in Toyin Abraham’s The Ghost and the Tout. I just decided to take my humanitarian work to another level. It was the lawlessness in Nigeria that inspired me to become a human rights activist and advocate. I see innocent people getting victimised every day because many of them don’t know their rights, or who to reach out to in such situations. I have always liked helping people in any way I can, and that was what led me to start my radio show. The show allows people to call in, lay complaints and request for support concerning human rights abuse and other issues.”

The Opomulero rapper also stated that he recently floated a non-governmental organisation to get support for his cause of eradicating human rights abuses, and not for political purposes. He said, “I recently registered the Ruggedman Care Foundation, so as to raise funds and get support for people. It has not been easy doing this alone, and there are so many issues that I cannot solve because they require money. This is the first time I’m talking about the NGO.

“I am not doing this because I want to run for (public) office later as some people have insinuated. I studied Political Science but I am not going into politics. Even if I would go into politics, it would not be now because the existing system does not give room for people who want to do good. A lot of things have to change before people like me can get involved in politics.”

AKA vindicated in arbitration ruling on Braai Show

Mzanzi Rapper AKA has taken to his social media with excitement to share the legal documents and a ruling stating that a partnership agreement between him and Makhuducom Media is valid.

In the documents shared on Twitter, the conclusion of the case was that AKA was entitled to benefit equally with Makhuducom Media from the profits “realised in the exploitation of the jointly owned copyright” in relation to the popular TV show.

Just hours before season two of the show aired, AKA issued a statement on his social media saying that he would continue to take legal action regarding his alleged rights to the show and wished Cassper Nyovest success.

Report says AKA had intentions of taking legal action against the SABC for prematurely cutting ties with him and subsequently sidelining him as a 50% owner of the show.

“In May 2021, false news started circulating regarding allegations of abuse on my part. This was related, inter alia, to the incident that took place during April 2021.

“Ultimately, I became aware that, inter alia, the first respondent (SABC) took a negative view of the negative publicity and tacitly indicated its intention to no longer continue our working relationship,” read the papers.

The rapper was vindicated when the arbitration ruling went in his favour, proving that he owns 50 % of The Braai Show. He shared a statement expressing his relief.

“Thus I am happy that the arbitration proceedings have found in my favour, that I am a 50% owner of The Braai Show and that no further exploitation of it can be transacted upon without my involvement.”

AKA was the host of the first season of The Braai Show but Cassper Nyovest hosted the second season which left fans of the show baffled about the sudden host change.

The rapper says he’s preparing himself to get what is due to him now that the ownership battle is over.

“Now that the arbitration proceedings have determined, with finality, that I own half of The Braai Show, I will be going after what is rightfully mine against those who sought to exploit and undermine my creativity and intellectual property,” added AKA.
