The year is 2015, at the height of the Casper and AKA beef. A fresh-faced 18-year-old from Durban, KZN, bursts into the SA hip hop scene with his smash hit single ‘Juice Back’ which had the whole country in a frenzy and even caught the attention of some of the biggest personalities in Mzansi hip hop, including Fred Merc, Scoop Makhatini, Slikour, and Cassper Nyovest. This spiraled into an international feature with Nigerian superstar Davido and Nyovest.

On the ESAM podcast, Gemini Major the producer of the song that propelled both him and Nasty C into superstardom revealed how effortless it was to make the ‘Juice Back’ song in under two hours. The former Family Tree producer and artist went on to say.

Gemini Major elaborated on how the two teamed up on the creation of Juice Back, saying: “so we do this sh*t, we connect you know, he’s like I sent you something, I had some ideas I exported real quick sent it to him via WhatsApp, two hours later he’s got a song, do you know what that song is; Juice Back, we made that song in less than two hours,” he said.

A-Reece Unveils Forthcoming Single ‘Dreams’ Featuring Pretoria New Kid.

0

It’s been four weeks since South African rapper Lehlohonolo Ronald Mataboge popularly known as A-Reece teased his fans about new music with a tweet that simply read ”10 Weeks.” This indicated that the Pretoria rapper plans to keep his promise of releasing new music on October 21st, 2022, as promised in the song ‘Couldn’t Have Said It Better 3‘ on the line ”they asking me to show what I’m worth I tell em, I’ll see you n***as on October 21st.”

After the ”10 Weeks” tweet A-Reece also made a similar tweet two weeks ago that simply read ”7 Weeks’ and fans have noticed that the rapper has changed all profile photos on his social media handles to a plain red background, suggesting maybe new music s coming.

Fans have been speculating if the coming October 21 project will be the much anticipated ‘Paradise 2’ or the sequel to last year’s joint project with his brother Jay Jody.

There has even been a video circulating the internet of Reece, Jody, and Wordz in what seemed like a music video set, alongside A-Reece’s partner Rickelle Jones.

Also raising the hopes of fans that ‘Paradise 2’ may be coming, is Wordz the Prince posting on his official Facebook page about having a feature on the project alongside other acts.

Some weeks ago a snippet video had surfaced online of Pretoria’s new kid on the block, rapper and singer Marcus Harvey vibing to a song and now fans are speculating that might be the A-Reece feature for which Reece has just announced the cover art and title for. The song is titled ‘Dreams’ featuring Harvey and is slated for release next Friday.

The BoydoingThings has been booked and busy recently, from a guest appearance on Blxckie’s single Sneaky which is popping at the moment to being the most streamed Independent hip hop act in the country, to having his sophomore album being the longest-charting rap album in SA.

A-Reece is also on the brink of a reunion with Emtee. Taking to Twitter, Emtee announced that A-Reece contacted him so that the two can work together on something as he expressed that he was waiting for that call for a long time.

“Reece hit me up (and) said he got one for us. A phone I’ve been waiting on for a long time regardless.” Tweeted Emtee.

A-Reece acknowledged having contacted his old Ambitiouz coworker. He affirmed what Emtee said was true with a laconic “Swear to G O D.”

Godmother Tilla Claims to Be The Most Influential Anglophone Youth. See Why:

Godmother Don Dada from Bamenda is a pioneer of Cameroonian Hip-Hop, Dancehall and Afro-fusion music. The Cameroon Godmother has taken to her social media to express how she has been able to influence a lot of youths and old people globally.

Bongkiya Venagesho Lantum Bertilla known by her stage name, Tilla Tafari aka Godmother Don Dada grew up in a home with a musical catalogue merged with Classical Music from her father, Hip hop and Ndombolo from her brother and other African rhythms like Makossa and reggae music from her mother and cousins, Tilla quickly developed a passion for music and always indulged herself in musical activities in and out of school.

She started writing songs by the age of 10 in class 7 and was even the first female band captain for the  School’s Mbaya Traditional Dance Group.

Her musical influences include; Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Asa, and Eve.

It wasn’t until 2013 that Tilla started performing in street rap battles along the basketball court, as basketball was her childhood passion. She also featured in a couple of mixtapes like Abakwa Oyee headed by Afro-pop artist Daddy Cool.

In 2014, Tilla debuted her first official single titled, “Alhadji” under the record label BBOY Records headed by Dancehall artist, Magasco which also featured in the Mboa Mixtape the next year.

Check her post below:

From writing my raps in my room in Bamenda to influencing a whole generation of old and young people worldwide.

Statistics show that hundreds of Cameroonians currently find employment by commenting about Tilla and I must recommend and applaud them for their endless efforts. The trend is to be spiteful and hateful against Tilla so as to feel a false sense of “belonging”.

I will be paying your salaries and handing over your awards at the end of the year. Please keep up the good work. Your family will be so proud of you. I love you all.

Happy Sunday.

Mama na trop d’influence. Tilla Tilla Tilla.

Priddy Ugly Finally Reveals Who Lerato is.

0

Angolan-born South African rapper and lyricist Ricardo Moloi, commonly known by his pseudonym Priddy Ugly has finally put to bed one of the most asked questions that have popped up after the release of his ‘MUD’ EP on Friday, September 2, 2022.

The album which serves as a sequel to his 2021 Album ‘SOIL’ has received wide critical acclaim, with many fans even christening it an instant classic.

Apart from the superb lyricism, Zoocci Coke Dope, and Wichi 1080’s show of production Maestro, one other talking point was about the identity of a name mentioned multiple on several tracks on the ep.

On the first track ’30 Minutes to Soweto’ Priddy Ugly references a Lerato in the line ”Lerato passed away before she could step into stilettos.”

The name also pops up in the song ‘Heaven Gates’ ”When Lerato passed away I was dazed for hella days We would set our dates on Saturdays The day she passed away, as it may was an April Saturday I couldn’t grab a plate or salad taste In pain, my bladder ached Lord, I would pray she had a break 15 years later got an angel half my age It’s a shame in a grave she had to lay Memories on my brain is how I saved her database.”

After a tweep asked Priddy who Lerato was, the buff rapper who is preparing for his boxing match against Cassper Nyovest replied the Tweet saying

SUN from the SOIL

@ItsPriddyUgly

”She was my partner, was with her from grade 7-10.. she passed away in a car accident along with her parents back in ‘07. Reference Ambition on YDKMY”

As the tweet suggests, this is not the first time we are hearing about Lerato, apparently the deceased was also referenced in the song ‘Ambition‘ from Priddy’s debut Mixtape ‘You Don’t Know Me Yet’ back in 2017.

The song covers the backstory of how Lerato inspired him to chase his goals and start different endeavors before finally settling for a rap career. Then transitions to how he met and began dating his wife Bontle Modiselle Moloi a few years after Lerato passed.

You can listen to ‘Heaven Gates’ from the ‘MUD’ EP below.

Deep dive:Touchline – The calling

If one thing Pen manufacturing companies should give Rapper Touchline(Thabo Mahlwele) an endorsement with the way he inks lines. The rapper lays it bare in new EP Before I Say More. He had initially released the song & visuals for The Calling. We take a dive into The Calling

Preamble has a soft tone melody which then transcends into the chorus with the rapper sharing his experiences

“Midnight comes again, I’ll be back om my lonely bed
Sleep peacefully knowin’ today I gave my very
best

The rapper then talks about how his music and he cannot be appealing to everyone

“Regardless of the rejection
Some say I make them sick, some say I heal them
It’s like the Johnson & Johnson injection”

Reference to to the J&J Covid -19 vaccine which faced backlash from the masses with reports of reactions and sickness in some people

He goes on to talk about a misconception especially around social media where people only eat what they are fed

“You don’t even read, you get your info from Musa Khawula”

Celebrity blogger Musa Khawula

Musa Khawula is a popular south African celebrity blogger who is well known for giving out exclusive gossip and news. Line comes in connection with the issue he was addressing of the new age twitter users who are rather focused on the bird app than they are with what’s really happening

He talks about the struggles he Faces as an artist such as securing the paid with the common “promoter dashes with the money ” issue. He also talks about how the public expectations rise with your rise in stardom

“Wear the same outfit on different pictures, they label you ‘broke’
These promoters always book you quick but the payment is slow
Kanti am I not the reason all these kids came to the show?”

Touchline goes on to talk about the late legendary rapper Prokid. He has often talked about how the rapper influenced him in some of his songs. On Dreamer’s freestyle he talks about the late star

“Where does he get those hot flows?”
My H-E-R-O was the late P-R-O
Why he’s not here today?
Nami angikeni, God knows
The pain is a lot more severe
When everyone is in your ear
Like you the next him
Correction, I could never live up to that level of perfection”

Late Pro

On the calling this is what he had to say

“Critics say “That flow is a lot like Pro’s, isn’t it?’
Of course, that’s the goat’s influence
And I put my soul into it”

He then starts talking about hustling parents working hard to see paid just so that their kids are well fed regardless of how they go about it

“I don’t judge her even though she works a 9 to 5 by day and winding her hips in the evening
As long as her kids will be eating”

A concept he’s also talked about on the song I’ll always have me from his album released earlier on this year S.O.O.N 2

And I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel
Girls on Instagram are never real when they post a reel
You earn a salary, baby, we understand
Why compete with a honey that gets her money from her man
Know you study and you work and you polishing the plan
But some nights you gotta dance with origin in your hand”
