PDSTRN, BARELYANYHOOK,Matosan and Preacher Kingz Grace the 2022 #HennesseyArtistry Stage

Hosted by Nigerian Hip Hop veteran Vector the Viper, the #HennesseyArtistry cypher is back for its 2022 edition. In a viral video making rounds across all social media platforms, the four chosen emcees can be seen going head to head and holding nothing back over a press conference podium with microphones and flashing lights. These young emcees clearly had a lot to get off their chests, every single one of them.

PDSTRN came in with very high energy to set the stage, with aggression in his voice as he followed up his bars with a vocal performance of a bridge setting the tone for BARELYANYHOOK and then Matosan’s high-pitched voice and Lamar-esque vocal inflections leading to Preacher Kingz’ mural to the many emcees he’s killed.

Another one! Global mega-star DJ Khaled has once again risen to the top of the game with six nominations at the 2023 GRAMMY® Awards. He has earned a total of 10 nominations throughout his career to date. The 2023 GRAMMY® Awards airs live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA on February 5! He has also notably tied Future for most rap category nominations this year.

Leading across categories, he picked up three nods for “GOD DID” [feat. JAY-Z, Fridayy, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, & John Legend], including “Song of the Year,” “Best Rap Song,” and “Best Rap Performance.”

His most lauded work to date, GOD DID, also snags a nomination for “Best Rap Album.” He scored a nod in the category “Best Melodic Rap Performance” for “Beautiful” [feat. SZA & Future]. Plus, he emerges in the biggest category of the night, garnering a nomination for “Best Album of the Year” for his contribution to Mary J Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous [Deluxe].

Cassper Nyovest Releases New Single ‘Bana Ba Stout’ with Visuals

Cassper Nyovest has not been very present in SA hip hop this year, taking time out to focus more on his numerous business ventures, boxing against other rappers, being a father, and dabbling in and out of the Amapiano genre making a hit here and there, a feature here and there, and not to mention a beef with ‘Imali Eningi’ collaborator Big Zulu that brought about the diss song ‘4 Steps Back.‘ Albeit Cassper has released a sprinkle of rap singles, just enough to keep his name on wagging tongues several times.

One of the most talked-about moments in Mzansi hip hop all 2022 was Tsibip’s verse on Fakaloice’s ‘Ooh Aah.’

The last two releases were received a bit underwhelmingly but Cassper is not relenting, he announced a single to close out the year titled ‘Bana Ba Stout.’

The single was announced last week and the same week, Cassper made an announcement on Twitter that the single’s release date was pushed back into 2023, but then released a surprise video for the song.

Costa who began as a dancer before entering into the worlds of South African Hip Hop and Amapiano also received plaques for his EP ‘Mr. Big Flexa’ reaching Gold status, and the title single going 4x platinum.

“Thank you for all your love and support Titch Gang! Thank you to everyone who came through last night to share the special moment with us all, also sorry for crying during my speech. Thank you @smirnoffsa for setting up such a lovely dinner for us all!” The rapper thanked everybody involved in the dinner and the fans.

AKA Releasing New Single as ‘Mass Country’ Draws Nigh

AKA’s alcohol brand Cruz Vodka has reportedly made 1.2 million sales of its pineapple and banana deluxe bottles, SupaMega took to his Twitter to thank God and the fans for always supporting him as he also announced that the lead single to his forthcoming album has been certified platinum. Kiernan also took the opportunity to announce a new single to drop before the year runs out.

AKA’s fourth full-length studio album and his first since 2018’s ‘Touch My Blood‘ is slated for an early 2023 release date. The lead single for the album ‘Lemons (Lemonade)’ received much critical and commercial acclaim from fans and critics alike bar Nota Baloyi.

The song has been certified platinum by RISA after about two months of release and is still going head to head against the Mzansi song of the summer K.O’s ‘Sete’ on radio and streaming playlists.

L-Tido Launches New Podcast with Pilot Episode Featuring AKA

Elusive South African rapper Thato Lloyd Madonsela most commonly known by his stage name L-Tido has decided to diversify away from making music and reap the benefits of the internet as a content creator. Podcasting has immensely and rapidly become the second choice for musicians past their prime and other creatives in recent times, especially South Ah. Tido joins the ranks of Ms.Cosmo, MacG, etc as he launches his own podcast called ‘The L-Tido Podcast.’

This is not Tido’s first attempt at joining the podcast game, his initial attempt turned out to be a disaster, as due to the overtly explicit nature of his first podcast ‘Only Fans Unplugged,’ viewers kept reporting every episode until it was taken down by the authorities.

The rapper seems to have learned from the experience and is taking a different route with the brand new ‘L-Tido Podcast’ as he gets a special big-name guest for the pilot episode in the person of SA hip hop colleague and collaborator Kiernan Forbes, also known as AKA.

Sarkodie recently dropped his JAMZ Album some days ago, and since its release, he has been doing numbers on streaming platforms. Dubbed Ghana’s biggest artiste, Sarkodie is still holding down all Top 10 spots on Apple Music Ghana with songs from his Jamz album. The landlord hasn’t rented out any room yet.

Also, Black Sherif becomes the first Ghanaian artiste to clock 200 Million streams on Boomplay! Crazy how he achieved this milestone in just 3 years. Sarkodie follows him closely with 100M streams and Shatta Wale comes third with 86M streams.

It might have been a while since you heard of and from Kultcha, that’s very true, but the prolific creative and super sound engineer is still very much in the music industry.

Kultcha puts as much energy into his music career with singles like “Physical” featuring Muno and “This Year” (with a remix out) putting him on the map of good music lovers since their release.

Kultcha has been mixing and mastering some of your faves songs and projects underground and in due time, you would get to listen to them.

Michael Ogilo (born 14th of September 1990) better known by his stage name Kultcha is an upcoming artist and a super sound engineer who hails from the Southern part of Nigeria; Delta State.

Over the years, he has had a lot of sound engineering jobs credited to his name. Likes of P-Square’s “Bank Alert” and “Nobody Ugly”, May’D’s “Koba” and “Bamilo” featuring Wizkid, Phyno’s “Financial Woman”, Teddy A’s “African Girl” and many more.

But that’s not all, as you read this, Kultcha has already prepared a number of tracks that he would be releasing next year as an EP. Presently he has recorded 10 tracks and he is yet to pick which makes the EP. We are of a strong opinion that the project is going to be a 5-Track EP. The title of the EP is not known yet, but another fact we are very sure of is that the visuals of 2 of the tracks from the project have already been shot. The tracks are titled “Hook Up” and “Wole”. From such titles, one can’t help but wait for the project to be released.

Siege, Muno and Ola Tunji have been featured by Kultcha on the project. There’s a big possibility that there might arise other collaborations, thus the task of selecting which songs make it into the EP.

Before we runoff… Did we mention that the EP Project has already received the nod of a Canada-Based Nigerian Public Relations?
