SA rap veteran rapper, record producer, and cotton fest founder Rikhado Makhado who was known all over Africa as Riky Rick committed suicide on February 23, 2022. Before his death, Riky Rick had helped so many Mzansi artists break out into the mainstream via features, co0signs ,or a slot to perform on his Cotton Festival stage. Riky also blessed audiences with several hits before his passing, to celebrate his first posthumous birthday we shall be ranking 5 of his best hit songs.
5. Stay Shining
The title track of Riky’s 2018 EP which saw a more musical side of Riky, the song and the whole project saw Riky exploring his more melodic side.
2018 was a year of artistic growth and evolution for Riky and this song is he epitome of that evolution.
This song houses aone of the most classic beat switches in A hip hop history and a classic A-Reece verse that always grace the Cotton Fest stage every year, the verse that announced A-Reece’s return to music after his nasty legal feud with Ambitiouz Entertainment.
No rap fan in Mzansi can forget thesse bars ‘f***k whats out now its only hot now cos I aint dropped yet,’ ‘black and white chanel vans from across the ocean looking like a killer whale.’
Riky Rick rapping ‘I been hutling for mulla mulla, when I get rich ama pick you up,’ shall forever be a bop.
3. Amantombazane Remix
Posse cuts don’t get any better than this, DJ Dimplez assembled Maggz, Kwesta, Okmalumkoolkat, KiD X, Nadia Nakai, Ginger Trill and Riky Rick for this super energetic cyphr style banger with the infectious hook and classic verses from Kwesta, Malumkoolkat and Riky himself, and also the verse that introduced most South Africans to Nadia Nakai.
Only thing missing from this cut is a Cassper Nyovest verse.
2. Boss Zonke
The song that started it all , Boss Zonke is definitely the most famous and iconic Riky Rick song ever.
In 2014 and 2015 a great paradigm shift swept through SA hip hop with the emergence of the AKA and Cassper dynasty, solo K.O and just on their trails was Riky Rick and his BoyznBucks.
Boss Zonke his second single paved the way, with that female choral ratchet zulu girl chant by Sanelelasta Mkhize that goes ”Boss zonke, boss nLonke Akanandaba, unehaba, KwaMashu naseMlazi, Umswenko bayamazi,” and Riky going ”everything I do they wanna do,” the Cotton club wave spread across the country and propelled Riky Rick to hip hop superstardom.
1. Sondela
This love letter to Riky’s baby mother at a time his first child was still a toddler, with a video starring Pearl Thusi from Riky’s debut album is Makhado’s most sincere and vulnerable effort. Riky sacrificed complex penmanship for accessible lines to accompany Zano’s soulful hook. If there’s a better Riky Rick song than ‘Boss Zonke’ then it can only be ‘Sondela’
And there you have it, what is your top 5 Riky Rick song? Happy havenly birthday Makhado, we don’t, die we multiply.

Cassper Nyovest held his head high after losing his last boxing match to NaakMusiq, Don Billiato is not giving up the ring anytime soon as he has been shopping for a worthy opponent online to step into the ring with.
”SOIL‘ rapper and former Ambitiouz Entertainment artist Priddy Ugly may just be the next challenger, as the husband to famed dancer Bontle Modiselle to Twitter to call out Nyovest.
“Ek se Abhuti Billiato, I was never scared. You hit my line & called me up about a fight & I gladly said yes, I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t stutter. If you “Iron Mike” foreal, you can’t be fighting people who can’t fight. Seems to me like you the scared one. You got my number.” Tweeted Priddy Ugly.
Cassper responded to Priddy in classic boxing trash-talking fashion “I hope Priddy Ugly isn’t another one who is gonna tweet & go hide in the studio like princess & ma drugs. Lol… He ouchea sounding very confident when he applying for a serious ass whopping. Could we possibly see #CassperNyovestVsPriddyUgly this year? It’s about to get ugly!!!” Cassper wrote.
Cassper and Priddy are both very fit and muscular men, of around the same height although not exactly the same weight category, the way this is going Mzansi may have another interesting fight to watch.

2022 has been the year celebrities in South Africa grace boxing. Just months after losing a bout to NaakMusiq a fan asked Cassper on Twitter if there would be a rematch between the two, while Cassper gave a negative response to that question somebody else is interested in a rematch with Cassper. South African Youtuber Slik Talk who lost to Cassper in the Fame vs Clout Match on December 9th 2021 has asked for a rematch.
Cassper posted a screenshot from Whatsapp of Slik Talk asking for a rematch with the ‘Doc Shebeleza‘ hitmaker, claiming he did not have sufficient time to train for their first fight and deserves time to train and get a fair rematch.
The Youtuber claims that since Cassper has been training with pro boxing coaches for about a year in preparation for his fight with AKA that never happened, it was an unfair advantage to him to fight an untrained Slik Talk.

AKA’s executive producer Richard Mahogany has lauded JR’s inclusion on the Idols SA Judges team. The well-known Executive Producer made it known that JR carries the right credentials when it comes to giving opinions on the future of musicians who are coming for auditions on Idols SA.
“It’s very tough listening to anyone but JR’s opinion on musicians and their future. It’s borderline insulting and patronizing. Like what are you talking about man?” Tweeted Richard Mahogany. Richard has established his brand through having a significant impact on the entertainment business and frequently serving as the creative director for well-known athletes.
This clearly states that he is of the knowledge about what JR’s can offer when it comes to giving advice or opinion on the future of upcoming artists in Mzansi.

Ambitiouz Entertainment is notorious for its bad contracts and legal battles with former artists who want out. While A-Reece and Emtee are the most popular example of an artist who had a fall out with the label and pubicly put them on blast, some other artists were not so vocal about their departure like Motswako boss lady Fifi Cooper who left in 2017 alongside the first wave of artists to exit the label.
EFFpolitician and South African Member of Parliament Julius ‘Juju’ Malema while being interviewed on MacG’s podcast and chill revealed that he stepped in to help Fifi Cooper, real name Refilwe Boingotlo Moeketsi, with her nasty legal feud with Ambitiouz which has led to a steady decline in her finances and career.
“I did. I like helping artists because they are underrated in South Africa, and they are not given the special attention they deserve because, without them, we would be a depressed nation.” Julius Malema said.
The Mostwako song recently released a song to address her battles and feuds and people that turned their backs on her.
Since the first exodus other artists that have fallen out with the label include Priddy Ugly and most recently Blaq Diamond.
