Former TWC member and A-Reece collaborator Mashbeatz off the success of his joint mixtape with Pretoria newcomer  Thato Saul, recruited the Setswana rapper and Klerksdorp rapper, Maglera Doe Boy for another banger. The song is a trap song with recurrent violin and Cello sampled over hi-hats.

The Youtube algorithm analysis has reported that fans replayed the ‘Bodega‘ rapper’s verse on the smash hit more than any other part of the song, since it’s upload to the platform. Maglera laid his very energetic performance on the second verse of the song and it has become a fan favorite.

NOTA and Reason Respond to SlikTalk

Mzansi YouTuber Slik Talk recently made a video clowning, rapper and Amapiano artist Sizwe Alakine, formerly known as Reason. SlikTalk referred to the Motif records signee as a broke, failed rapper, this is just the latest of a slew of attacks from Slik to Reason over the years.

Famed South African podcast host MacG, asked Reason about his beef with SlikTalk in a 2021 interview and the brushed it off with a laugh and a few jokes.

After the latest attack, Reason made a video imitating and clowning SlikTalk and posted it, to much jokes and criticism on the internet.

Controversial, Music Executive NOTA dropped his two cents on the video, clowning Reason who recently released a song dedicated to his deceased loved one titled ‘After Tears.’ NOTA said Warner Music Group is incompetent for not promoting the song enough and the viral video of Reason clowning SlikTalk is getting more exposure than his latest song.

Kendrick Lamar and Hip Hop Studied in Augusta University

Kendrick Duckworth is no stranger to literary excellence and being a subject of admiration and study. The Compton rapper became the first rap artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 2017, for his fourth studio album, DAMN. The latest addition to his literary excellence achievements hat is a professor from Augusta University referencing his music as a case study in literature.

Kendrick’s poetic lyrical prowess has found its way from his notepads to the radio, then the Grammys stage, Marvel movie soundtracks, the Superbowl, and now the classroom.

Kendrick Lamar and Hip Hop Studied in Augusta University

Augusta University professor, Prof Adam Diehl, is incorporating hip-hop culture, lyrical analysis, and rap as a form of literature including the works of Kendrick Lamar. “The [Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers] tracks cover a vast array of topics — from vaccinations to transgenderism to cancel culture — but the unifying theme is therapy,” Diehl says.

About the rapper’s latest album Diehl had this to say, “As much emphasis as physical health got over the past two years, the pandemic was arguably just as bad if not worse for people’s mental health. Accordingly, this album goes into dark valleys in Kendrick’s and his family’s trials and traumas: child abuse, sex addiction, separation/divorce, deaths, etc. In the two years that society has been persevering through the pandemic, countless marriages and millions of lives have been shaken to their cores.”

Finally, he had this to say about Lamar’s legacy and the growth of hip hop as an art form, ”Kendrick Lamar is a big part of that acceleration, in 100 years, people won’t remember some big acts because popularity wears off, but they will still celebrate Kendrick [Lamar] because his work is excellent.”

This is coming not long after legendary Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco, who Kendrick is often compared to was offered a professorship to teach a class at MIT. Prior to this Jay-Z’s lyrics about the ‘stop and search’ legal rights, on his song ’99 Problems‘, was a case of study in a law school and affected changes in the ‘Miranda Rights.

5 South African Rappers Make SAMAS 22′ General Category Nominations List

Following his claims that he is the best rapper in Africa, A-Reece seems to be on an all-out mission of proving to the world that he is the best. He has been nominated for Artist of the year at the 28th South African Music Awards. Keep reading to find out the other four SA rappers who made the prestigious nominees list.

1. A-Reece

A-Reece SAMA nominations

The ‘Meanwhile in Honeydew’ rapper from Pretoria West bagged a nomination for SAMPRA Artist of the Year, a great feat for an Independent rapper who barely works on collaborations with the biggest artists from other more pop appealing genres like Amapiano, Gqom, Kwaito, House, etc.

This is coming right after Reece was nominated for Artist of the decade at the last South African Hip Hop Awards. Cassper Nyovest took home the Artist of the Decade plaque at the SAHHAS, while South African Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond won the Artist of the Year award at the 2021 SAMAs.

2. Big Zulu

Off the success of his third studio album ‘Ichwane Lenyoka‘ (2021), which spawned three chart-topping singles “Mali Eningi”, “Inhlupheko” and “Umuzi eSandton”. Big Zulu scooped 7 awards at the SA Hip Hop Awards, and now the rapper has bagged a SAMAs nomination for the Best Music Video Award for ‘Umuzi eSandton’ featuring Lwah Ndlunkulu.

3. Emtee

Things have been looking up for Emtee after his label debacle with his former label, Ambitiouz Entertainment. Since dropping his long-anticipated third studio album Logan, in 2021.

The SA king of hooks will go against former record label colleague, A-Reece, for the SAMAs Artist Of The Year category.

4. Nasty C

Arguably the most successful song off his ‘Zulu Man with Some Power’ album, the International collab with Dreamville songbird Ari Lennox, ‘Black and White,’ has been nominated for Record of the Year at the 28th SAMAS.

What better way to celebrate the coming of his ‘Ivyson Army Tape’ than to scoop his third SAMA.

5. Intaba Yase Dubai

Two things are constant in the SA music industry; any artist signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment is bound to be screwed over, but they will always churn out some of the dopest talents and the biggest hits in Mzansi.

Less popular than the rest of the emcees on this list the rapper will face off against Big Zulu for the Video Of The Year for his song S’bali. The rapper has accused Big Zulu of robbing him of his royalties for their  KFC deal and Imali Eningi.

In just over 48 hours the simple video which features a couple of Blaq’s inner circle and his manager has garnered over 8,000 views on YouTube and is trending at #14 for Music videos, an impeccable feat for a song that did not have a large budget roll-out or any pre-release hype.

The video version contains a portion of the song not on the audio version; a stripped-down lyrical rap bridge alluding to the song’s topic and Blaq’s position in the African best rappers’ conversation, spitting balsy lines like ”I’ve been the GOAT since I got signed to the previous GOAT,” referring to his move to Choc City being facilitated by rap legend, MI Abaga.
