Sarkodie Says He Almost Passed On For The Bob Marley Collaboration

The landlord of Ghana’s music, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, who just landed a massive collaboration the new version of Bob Marley’sStir It Up’ song has shared more insight on how he landed the collaboration.

ICYMI: Ghanaian Rapper Sarkodie Features On The New Version Of Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up”

Speaking on the +44 Podcast, Sarkodie said he felt he wasn’t worthy to lay his vocals next to that of the legend.

Following a conversation with Bob Marley’s team, the Sarkcess Music boss disclosed that he almost passed it on.

According to the ‘Landlord’ hitmaker, he was hard on himself, thinking that he was not the right person for the Bob Marley collaboration, but his manager told him that it was a good opportunity.

“When we had the email, I almost passed it on, just out of respect. I felt that I was not worthy to lay my vocals next to the legend. I was really hard on myself and my manager was like this is a big opportunity but because the artiste side of me is thinking more about the art and not the opportunity so I didn’t even listen to anything. I just felt I’m not the right person to lay my vocals next to the legend,” he disclosed.

He however added that he looked at it from the artiste’s side of him and not the opportunity but quickly had a change of mind when he listened to the original vocals of Bob Marley in the studio, a moment he calls “spiritual.”

“Then, they sent the record and we opened his vocals and this is his real vocals when he recorded it and I was listening to that in the studio, I captured it on camera because it was very spiritual at that moment,” he added.

He also revealed that he had to record four versions before picking the right one because he felt the message in his lyrics had to be worthy of the legend.

“I think I did like 4 verses and I had to choose the right one. Everything I say, I’m like, I’m saying next to Bob Marley, it feels like me and him in the booth. Like you can’t…there are few people that get me like that when I work with them, the man that inspired me to rap, Obrafuor, he’s a rapper, he’s never cursed, he’s never used profanity, and he was catering to the youth, I didn’t know how he was able to do that. I tried it but the new generation its hard to like keep it too censored, you wanna say stuff that you feel,” he concluded.

The new version of ‘Stir It Up’ from Bob Marley and The Wailers featuring Sarkodie is officially out on Friday, January 20, 2023, and available on streaming platforms.

HipHop Lifestyle: Ghanaian Rapper Medikal And His Love For Cars

This week on HipHop Liestyle, we take a look at the luxurious life of Ghanaian rapper, Medikal and his love for cars.

In 2003, Nate Dogg posed a question that keeps rappers up at night: “Could you love me on a bus?” he crooned on the chorus of 50 Cent’s hit “21 Questions.” Fiddy raises an equally important conundrum on the same track: “If I went back to a hoopty from a Benz / Would you poof and disappear, like some of my friends?” If ever there was a song to remind the listener that you’re not a baller unless you own expensive cars, this is it.

Cars and hip-hop go together like gin and juice: they are an essential ingredient in that complex lyrical hierarchy that tells your peers that you have climbed that ladder of success a few rungs higher.

Medikal and Fella Makafui exhibiting their love

Samuel Adu Frimpong (born 4 April 1994), popularly known as Medikal, is a Ghanaian hip hop musician born to Portia Lamptey and James Frimpong in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.

He comes from Sowutuom, a suburb in Accra, Ghana. Medikal and Sarkodie had the highest nominations for the 2017 edition of the Ghana Music Awards. In 2018, he was on the Tim Westwood Show. Medikal had his high school education at Odorgonno Senior High. He is the son of James Frimpong and Portia Lamptey. Samuel adopted the name Medikal because he was fascinated with rapping about doctors, surgeons, medical practitioners and hospitals in general. He has made a name for himself in the music industry through hard work and numerous collaboration with successful artists. Apart from his nominations in 2017, he won the best discovery video in the MTN 4Syte Video Award in 2016.

He is known for his taste for luxurious cars. Top-notch cars owned by Medikal include Benz C300, Range Rover Vogue, Chevrolet Camaro and many more.
