The Independent National Electoral Commission has shrugged off demands by various stakeholders, including political parties, to pause the ongoing collation and declaration of the results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections over allegations of electoral manipulation and compromise.
The Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Monday protested the failure of the commission to ask its officials to upload the results on the INEC portal from the polling units.
They complained about widespread discrepancies in the results of the polls and asked the electoral commission to halt the proceedings at the collation centre and address their complaints.
But following the refusal of the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, to heed the parties’ calls, some opposition parties on Monday staged a walkout during the announcement of results at the National Collation Centre, International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Creative industry at large in Nigeria has weighed in on the collation process and quite a number of prominent heads in the Naija hip-Hop community have taken to the Blue Bird Social Media platform to express their disgust at the frivolities happening in Nigeria at the moment in regards to the election.
HipHopAfrica has gathered some of the tweets below. More outbursts would be updated as they get unveiled on Twitter.

News just in that popular record label and clothing line, Skhanda World has parted ways with rapper, Ma-E among other previously signed artists.
Skhanda World & UMGSA announcement
In a recent press release, Skhanda World together with Universal Music South Africa, announced the separation between themselves and the Township Counsellor rapper, as well as musicians Dj Mr. X and JustBheki.
This announcement comes after the joint record labels have met and mutually agreed with the artists that they are to be relieved of their contractual commitments to the labels.
Skhanda World & UMGSA
Ma-E, who is the founder of Ghanda Ghanda Productions, is no stranger to independence having previously co-founded and ultimately leaving Cashtime Life citing creative differences and a lack of support. Following the announcement of his recent departure, the rapper expressed his continued support of the labels. “Salute gents, Skhanda 4ever.”
Ma-E’s responseDj Mr. X’ response
In more Ma-E news, the rapper revealed to fans that they can expect to see the visuals for Zakudala featuring Vernotile on March 1st, 2023. He shared a short snippet of the upcoming visuals on his Twitter page.
Here are some social media reactions over the split:
Here we go again, where people gonna put this on KO. People need to understand that some artists will never POP, they will never be A-list. They can release 1000 songs a year but still. It's just like that. Departing artists had their music on Radio rotation but still..
KO should just focus on himself as an artist this management has never worked. When it was time to push KidX he dropped CaraCara and ended up overshadowing his own artist, this was time to push Loki or Roii he goes and drops SETE again overshadowing his artists.
The African Giant and Nigeria Grammy Award Winning Act, Burna Boy has got people talking even more about his silence and non-participation in the ongoing Nigerian election. With other celebrities like M.I Abaga, Falz TheBahdGuy, P-Square, Seun Kuti, Brymo and more being vocal about the election and electoral process, people have been calling out Burna Boy to speak or get involved.
Burna Boy finally took the bait and spoke up on why he isn’t keen on supporting or getting involved with the ongoing #NigeriaDecides2023 Election. Check Tweet Below.
Burnaboys reply to my friend after he replied his story .So that we all remember those who stood on the fence when it really mattered. Because obviously it was only ever about money for him, using our lives to make money but not willing to have a stand when it mattered most !! pic.twitter.com/pvi8kc9i6L
THE BIG QUESTION here is; Do we need someone with influence to endorse a political candidate or get involved in election activities one way or the other just to boost our confidence or motivate us towards the process?
Some Nigerians have been reacting to Burna’s outburst – while some are of the opinion that his involvement would have boosted the confidence of his fans, others felt it was not really that necessary.
Below are a couple of the reactions so far…
“Why do you even need anyone to tell you who to vote for?” – Victor Terhemba
Why do you even need anyone to tell you who to vote for?
And why is it a crime if a person of influence decides not to endorse or campaign for any politician? What if by his convictions he’s not comfortable with any of the candidates?
Solo Bankole had to dig out a short video interview of Burna Boy in the “Shopping For Sneakers” Podcast talking about his non-involvement in politics or its affairs.

It has not been an easy climb back to the top for former Ambitiouz entertainment frontman Emtee, since he left the label and almost lost everything. The Matatiele born rapper and trapper released his third album and started his own record label, Emtee Records. The ‘Logan’ hitmaker recently went on twitter to lament that despite all he has achived since going independent, the only thing left to do is have his own annual headline concert like Riky Rick’s Cottonfest, Nasty C’s Ivyson Tour, A-Reece’s Reece Effect concerts.
Emtee went on twitter to express his disappointment at not having his own headline annual show like his aforementioned peers.
Earlier he had also expressed fear for his security because he has been receiving death threats and is afraid for his life.
“I first delete the messages and blocked the number, and they continued sending messages with a different number. I am scared, but I know I didn’t do anything to anyone. The person wants R25 million, where do I get that kind of money?” he said.

Falz, whose discography is dominated by socio-conscious music such as his sophomore album, Stories That Touch (2015), and his fourth album, Moral Instruction (2018), continues to blaze a trail in Nigeria’s music scene as one of the few artists actively using their platforms for activism. Having been raised by one of Nigeria’s most respected Senior Advocates, Barrister Femi Falana, the young maverick and trained lawyer continues to use his voice as a tool for change.
After participating actively in Nigeria’s electioneering season as one of the most vocal musician-activists advocating better governance, prominent Nigerian rapper Folarin Falana, professionally known as Falz, has crowned his efforts with a new socio-conscious song dubbed, Owa.
Produced by Chillz, the song sees Falz and Tekno speak on social issues, including police brutality, fuel scarcity, insecurity, unemployment, and mass poverty, among other problems that have bedevilled Nigeria’s enduring populace since 1999.
“Regarding the country’s current situation, it is time for us to stop and get a New Nigeria. We need new leaders that can move this country to the right destination and at the right time, the time is now. We need to collectively shout Owa!” Falz tells Weekend Beats.
The song which was released just a few days before Nigerians decided on their political future, Falz and Tekno’s Owa sounds like that rave-of-the-moment jam, similar to what Davido’s Fem was during the #EndSARS saga circa three years ago. The chemistry between Tekno’s hook, swiping on a catchphrase as relatable as ‘Owa’ (Yoruba phrase to indicate stops during a journey), to drum some encouragement into the ears of the electorate to make the right choice today.
The popular Nigerian rapper and comic actor Folarin Falana better known as Falz, trended on Twitter after a report went viral that he and some voters were attacked at Ikate, Lekki, Lagos state, where they had gone to vote. The report added that Falz’s phone was seized from him. It was also reported that election materials were destroyed.
In the latest post via his Instastory, Falz appreciated many fans who checked up on him as he added that he was fine. The rapper further revealed he had been handed his phone and was yet to vote. He wrote: “Thanks to everyone checking. I’m fine, Got my phone back as well. Still waiting to vote.”
