Olawale Ashimi and Gilbert Bani, most commonly known as Brymo and AQ respectively are somewhat an unlikely duo but they do have a few things in common; both are veterans in the Nigerian music industry who have been sidelined by the mainstream for most of their careers, only to find acceptance by a niched cult fanbase at the twilights of their careers.
Brymo has scored the most number of projects (14) by a Nigerian music act and AQ runs his own record label 100 crowns in affiliation with Chocolate City, which houses the Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez.
The rapper and singer have come together to work on ten track a joint project titled ‘ETHOS.’
On August 4th, 2022, the AQ announced the album is slated to be released on Friday, August 12th, 2022.
Both artists are known for their poetic lyricism charged with socially conscious philosophical musings and stream-of-consciousness proclivities.
Brymo’s last album ‘Theta‘ was released earlier this year to much critical acclaim, AQ is just coming off a joint tape with label mates MI Abaga, Loose Kaynon, and Blaqbonez titled ‘Behold the LAMB.’
Brymo is also known for controversial political takes and social opinions but that has not hampered the growth of his career nor the acceptance of his art by fans and peers alike. This makes one wonder if it is safe to christen cancel culture a myth.
