Love is a language that Lowfeye truly understands. Today, on Valentine’s Day, he has gifted fans the ultimate Valentine’s Day treat: a soul-soaked Afro serenade titled “Gijima” produced by GVNT and 5TWZN KEYS. This treat is proof once again that his flair for Afro soul is incredibly effortless. This is a space he’s effortlessly conquered before with tracks like “Ncumolwakho”, “Indawo” and “Ithonga” from his Mfana KaMakhulu mixtape and the stunningly heartfelt “Buya,” which also teases his upcoming EP, Imibuzo, set to drop on March 7th.
“Gijima” is a love anthem brimming with Zulu romance and sensuality. On this track, Mabulala paints an irresistible picture of his significant other’s beauty, singing about how her mere presence sets his blood rushing. With lyrics like “engingakushintja ngawe sibongo kuphela”, a heartfelt declaration of his readiness to change her surname and marry her, he solidifies his reputation as a master of crafting songs that strike straight at the heart.
This is a song for ladies, like myself. The kind that lights up your face with a smile and the kind to send to your love with a coy, “This made me think of you.” Lowfeye is proving, once again, that no one does love quite like Zulu men. Romance? It’s in their DNA.
