Manzini, Eswatini —Rising Eswatini-based rapper Phatzus (born Phathizwe Dlamini) released his latest single, “Catch & Release”, featuring fellow Manzini rapper Livelovelxnce, on August 13, 2024. This new drop follows the success of his recent project, “LateNites in Brema”, which debuted in June 2024.
Produced by Johannesburg’s 26Miles, “Catch & Release” is a trap-infused anthem that boasts hard-hitting 808s and a hypnotic, laid-back tempo. The track combines Phatzus’ signature sound—a mix of ambient and lo-fi textures—with a catchy hook that captures the hustle and grind of daily life in pursuit of financial freedom.
Drawing inspiration from their everyday experiences of waking up, giving thanks, and chasing the bag, Phatzus and Livelovelxnce bring a sense of determination and aspiration to their verses. The mellow, atmospheric vibe of “Catch & Release” makes it perfect for both reflection and unwinding, offering listeners a sonic escape into a world of ambition and endless possibilities.
Phatzus describes his sound as “highway whipping, sunset beaming, SikiPiko music” that combines the swagger of trap with the relatability of everyday struggles. His music incorporates elements of lo-fi, trap, and psychedelic influences, creating a trippy and immersive experience for listeners.
As a key member of the “BoysKlub Collective”—an independent group of artists from Eswatini—Phatzus has been an active force in the local music scene. In 2024 alone, he released multiple singles, including “Presie”, “LateNite Interlude”, “Deep In My Zone”, and “Tiffany & Brittany” featuring Amarii. His passion project, “LateNites in Brema”, pays homage to his hometown, formerly known as Bremersdorp in colonial times and now Manzini.
