Watch! K.O And AKA Reunite To Perform Smash Hit ‘Run Jozi’

Watch! K.O And AKA Reunite To Perform Smash Hit ‘Run Jozi’. When the beat to AKA and K.O smash hit, Run Jozi drops crowds are known to get going. The 2014 smash hit to put the spotlight on the then young rappers along with Yanga Chief who features on the song. Run Jozi dominated the airwaves and charts at one point. It has been a while since fans were able to catch the artists performing the song. However, recently a few fans were in for a treat when they got to see the rappers reunite for the performance.

K.O performed alongside AKA at Yanga Chief’s Famous Friends event, which aims to unite SA Hip Hop. The rappers showed fans at the event that they still have what it takes to get crowds going. As the reception to the performance was just as warm. The event scene in South Ah is opening up and everyone is in a festive mood. More artists have returned to performing across the country and are booked and busy. Famous Friends is an event for Hip Hop enthusiasts to engage and reignite the spark in Hip Hop and this reunion might have assisted in doing so.

Run Jozi features on AKA’s album, Levels and is one of the singles on the album that reached Gold status. The music video has over 3 million views on YouTube. The song was certainly a big deal in its time and one of SA Hip Hop hottest collaborations. At one point, Yanga Chief was not credited on the hit song, something that got the streets talking but the rapper in an interview with OkayAfrica reflected on understanding why the moment happened. At the event, several SA Hip Hop acts performed, Yanga had explained in an interview with SlikourOnLive, that there would be no formal stage or structure of the lineup and artists would just perform as they go. SA Hip Hop rap OGs Slikour and Suggasmash of Skwatta Kamp also performed.

While the day was all about celebrating all things good in SA Hip Hop it couldn’t be without any drama. A brief fracas broke out after Nota confronted Stogie T and the two had a mini tiff. Nota went on several Instagram Lives and shared several posts detailing what went down between Stogie and him. The Diamond Walk hitmaker responded to everything Nota had to say in a single statement. “Yesterday, at an event touted as bringing hip hop together for the love of the culture, I was minding my own business when Nota encroached my section. I interpreted this as a provocation and gestured for him to leave and an unfortunate fracas ensued,” read his statement.

Album Track Pointers

“Cinderella”  This Song wasn’t supposed to be on this project but It somehow made it’s way here and now my Personal favorite of the album. At the time I made this song I was going through a Heartbreak and emotional issues. Talking about the whole situation on song really gave me a leap off and more insights to love & relationships, the fact that everyone who listens to the album will be listening to my story gives me a huge relief. Love is Free.

“Don’t Drag Me to War” I was just heading back from getting my first Tattoo on this night in a long ride home, my mind was racing with pressure from the whole system in Nigerian man. Thoughts of War came to my mind, Thoughts about my Past Demons and down times ran along too. Immediately I Got home 193 Rennie played a beat and all I did was write down all I felt in the Cab which births the first line of the Song “I got the Pain tattered on my arm”.

“Pray” As the name of the song depicts “Pray” talks about the importance of Praying as a Hustler, We spent almost a year working on the song, Fromm 193 Rennie making the beats to I arranging and composing in Abuja. Dessy & Zik recorded the song in Accra during a random session where a few parts were on the MacBook Microphone because our Mic got faulty during the session.

“Sunshine” Sometime in 2018, I met with Bryan the Mensah at a bar to Listen to some beats and sounds, meeting Birth 3 records of this project including; ‘Sunshine’, ’Chains’ & ‘Buju Banton’. Sunshine talks about hoping for the Sun to shine on everyone going through Difficult times, hoping for happier times and more Smiles on peoples’ faces.

“Chains” (Feat. Khalasheen)- Chains was also a part of my meeting with Bryan, I made the song with pictures of the common African youth in my mind. The struggles & challenges we go through as the Modern day chains entangled on our Paths to success and also I as an artist finding my new wave and direction.
“Murder & Murderer” I wrote this song and recorded it during the #ENDSARS Saga in Nigeria when Nigerian youths where been gun down during a Protest, talking about the high rate of murder in the country at the time in the country.

Big Zulu out with his third studio album Ichwane Lenyoka

0

On his third studio album, South African hip-hop superstar Big Zulu stays true to his origins in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Over the album’s 20 songs, he raps about his upbringing (“Ichwane Lenyoka”, “Baba Ngiyakukhumbula”), love (“Yakhala iPone”, “Ngaqoma ibhinca”), his dominance of the game (“Ushun Wenkabi”) and touches on familiar, relatable issues such as domestic violence (“Ubaba Ulala Nami”) and absentee parents (“Ibele”). Referencing the album’s title, he likens himself to a baby snake: “A snake is unlike a bird,” Big Zulu explains to Apple Music. “After a bird has had chicks, it feeds them, goes hunting and raises them. But after a snake has just had a baby, the baby [is on its own]. It doesn’t raise its own child; the child has to fend for itself. So, in my case, when I got into music, I didn’t have a ‘mother and father’, like a record company, to guide me—it was all up to me.” With that freedom, Big Zulu has crafted a hip-hop album that sounds homegrown as it meanders through Afro-pop, Afro-soul and maskandi—a sound he’s been associated with throughout his career.
